Hi, I have just completed week 1. I've been doing it on the treadmill at the gym because I have an old knee injury and I felt it would be gentler. Is anyone else using a treadmill? I am about 4 stone overweight and have a mental illness so am trying to ease myself in gently. Is it much harder when you make the transition to running outdoors?

I have only run outside ππββοΈπ
It is great to be out. Just you and the program if you can find a quiet spot. I took off to our local country park. Still do,π
Hello, it sounds like you're doing really well. If you can get outside, running on grass/AstroTurf will be a lot gentler as the soft ground will absorb some of the impact. Good luck.
Very well done you.. and welcome...
Yes, it is different, and outside is harder I feel, but, you have started and you are on the way
If you can, head out there... do not worry about folk out there at all.. this is you making a superb start to being who you want to be
The outside is so good for mental and physical well being... it has and continues to be a real support for many of us... the ability to move and run and walk and let all the stresses and strains float away into the air... I wrote a post a year ago, Followed by a Black Dog... I have not really seen much of him since then...
Try it... be bold.... and if folk stare... then they are jealous... or they are runners, thinking " I wish I was out today".
Keep it slow and steady and keep posting please
Thanks for such a positive response to my message. I have just bought a cheap watch with stopwatch and tomorrow I am going to run outside! I'm going to try it on grass so it's a bit softer.
I have run both on a treadmill & outdoors & my favourite is running outdoors. I started C25K in December 2016 and it has been so interesting to watch the trees & plants change as the season change. Personally, I have a dodgy knee and haven't found any difference running on a treadmill to outside, if it's going to twinge it doesn't matter what I am running on
Running outside is harder as the treadmill belt does some of the propelling forwards for you for the same given speed. If you wish to ease your transition place the incline of the treadmill at around 1.5%. But really the important thing is just to do the programme in whatever form that may be. If you like the treadmill stick with the treadmill and do not worry about outside. You will probably find the exercise will help with your mental illness, many people do me included.
