A bit of advice please.......

I'm thinking of treating myself to a Fitbit or something and as I'm a complete technophobe I have no idea what I should get, if at all.......I want something that counts calories burnt, heart rate, the distance I've ran and the time it took to run.

Can anyone suggest the thing for me. It will need to be something for a numbskull to understand thoughπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

I have a tomtom. It's easy to use and great for doing intervals. I have this one:

Loads here use Garmin. I have th simplest Garmin, the f10 but it doesn't do heart rate though. The dearer ones do

I like simple so,went for,the basic

You don't need any of this for the programme. You could get something post Graduation as a gift to yourself

Hi... I wondered where you had got to :) You okay ? :)

I am sure there will be loads of advice for you... I just have a Garmin Forerunner 10..like a few of us on here...:) So simple to use... really clear to understand and it does what you are talking about, except for the heart rate.. If I had anything like that I would be worrying!

The Garmin is a great basic bit of kit :)

I second what Oldfloss says - I have a Garmin forerunner 10 as well and it has more features than I really need. Very cost effective πŸ˜„

I can't stress this enough. Buy a device with built in GPS and a Heart Rate Monitor which you wear around your chest. Anything else will give you woefully inaccurate data. Garmin, Tom Tom and Suunto all make decent devices. Being able to review your performance is the first step to improving.

I have a Fitbit Charge HR - there's a newer model - and it meets my needs well as it is quite simple, I hate fuss and I run with my phone and I'm quite happy tracking run routes with Runkeeper on that. I really just wanted something that would monitor overall activity and to see what was going on with my heart rate generally. (Plus it was a gift, bought on Black Friday, and cheap)

I have family members who spend lots of time with their Garmins and chest straps... never fancied it.

It was surprisingly useful back in January when I had flu.

Main drawbacks, once your skin has got used to it, are that it needs recharging a tad more often than claimed, and you can't use it for swimming

Thankyou for your reply. It's handy to know good and bad point to these things.

I had a Fitbit and had to have it replaced several times as it stopped working...I loved it when it worked and loved competing with work colleagues for step counts! I was bought an I watch for my 50th, which probably wouldn't have been my first choice but it has good features and does focus me on getting my heart rate up each and every day. I was shocked and not a little dismayed that I had to walk more to get 10000steps out of my iwatch than had been the case with the Fitbit.

Thankyou Shorty7. It does make you wonder how accurate these things are doesn't it?!

I would go for an entry level Garmin or Suunto in your place. I would also suggest buying a secondhand one on Ebay. They can be picked up cheap as chips.
