I'm trying to do the couch to 5k but I'm hitting stumbling blocks along the way and I'm finding it hard to stay motivated. A few weeks ago I got to week 3 but by the second run my shins were really hurting and it was painful even when walking. I looked for advice and went to a running shop to get my gait checked and got new shoes, compression socks also. I had 2 weeks off until the pain had completely gone then started on week 3 again but the same thing happened after the second run. I've iced my shins had another week off and just done some waking etc. Don't know what to do next, can someone please advise? I'm 47 yr old , not used to running but do other exercise regularly and I really want to complete this!

I had sore shins , and if I run too fast I still do, it will go, and the motivation for continuing can be anything, each week you get to the end of is an achievement, and even half way through the course you will start to feel like a runner , it doesn't matter what your time is. I got to the point where my shins were hurting more during the walking stage, so I had to keep running . It should lessen with time, and I think you are right to take time off. If you have to take time off, go to the swimming pool or on a bike, anything. It will help you keep focused on your goals
