Advice please - tiredness

Hello, I started C25K in Jan and am happily ticking off the weeks (currently wk 7) but I keep feeling dreadfully tired. I have an underactive thyroid but had this checked last month and is fine. Before Jan I did buggerall, for years, and I'm 4/5 stone (NOT 45 STONE!!) overweight.

Other than that I'm in good health and haven't struggled any more than is usual starting something new.

Those with knowledge/experience, do you think it's just because I'm doing something three times a week after being a lazy sod? Or do you think there could be something else at play here?

Thanks in advance!

That's a shame you feel so tired. I would have thought your efforts with c25k should have made you feel less tired not more. Are you eating healthily and not relying on caffeine to boost your energy ? If not I'd see my Doctor for a check.

in reply to Duracellqueen

Thanks Duracellqueen, it's really frustrating as you say I feel I should be full of beans! Also working in an aircon'd office which I am suspicious about, not enough oxygen! Anyways, I shall persevere, might have a 'jama day at the weekend to recharge.

in reply to Duracellqueen

Sorry realised I didn't actually answer what you asked! No, I drink tea but same as for years, hardly touch coffee and eat a good veggie diet, with supplements for iron and B12. Curious!

Inadequate sleep and inadequate hydration are the usual cuplrits for fatigue, especially after increasing exercise volume? Are you getting a solid 8 hours and drinking at least 3 litres of water a day?

Don't have a pyjama day to recharge. Go for a good walk in fresh air. Do some yoga. Active recovery is better than sloth for boosting flagging energy.

in reply to Rignold

Hmm I don't sleep that well, just wake up a lot in the night, fidgety, and I NEED 8 hours! I drink plenty of water though have increased that recently just in case. You're right of course, fresh air and goodness is the key, thanks!

hi agree with all the advise.Rignold spot on , sounds like.

Only thing I may add is do everything to run tension free and get the required amount of extra oxygen to supply what your muscles need to do running. Also make sure you exhale reasonable frequently your CO2. The points on posture etc. can be advised.

You are a Wonder Woman and I have not read your posts and journey.I just have all three posts and replies.Impressive.

At 74 I could not carry an extra 4-5 stone and accomplish what you are doing.

I am not surprised you are tired.Your a star.

I recommend you read Dr Michael Mosley's book , you know the tv show, Trust me I am a Doctor, not to particularly follow the programme on fasting , but just to understand you and your body.Did you know that because of our ancestory fasting can even switch on and improve our mechanisms and and therefore improve our repair days.See the book ref. Medical fact.

I replied to someone on the dieting/ C25k community.I will try and give you the post user name.Understand their can be medical restrictions / limitations of course.I am not medic.

Everything you need is on this world class facility, but before I knew of it I did the 4:3 fasting diet weekly and followed the Biggest Loser floor exercises. Not easy for Ladies. Metabolism differences ?

I recommend Michael Mosely's & Mimi Spencer, No1 best seller, shortbooks.co.uk.

Just think what more you could do and all the other rewards, your soaring already, guaranteed no more tiredness. You would be capable of lifting 45 stone with your spirit and motivation.

Someone has said this programme rewards you with energy and it does.So does weightloss,

Also the more you have to lose initial the more you reduce, relatively, and that is a reward also.

Good luck with your journey and I an going to watch with interest how you inspire us.

I looked back at your 3 posts and see that I replied to youe second post where I did agree with Mentor IT. The/my post happens to be blank, no drama.

The amazing thing about this programme, it manages to respond to all of our uniquely different journeys and needs.

in reply to Tbae

Thanks, I can’t see your previous post, sorry for not acknowledging it.

No thats Ok, I had a photo of my grand children, Your question was about doing the programme on your own or with a group. I like Mentor IdeT prefer to do it on our own .mine was simply found it easier to focus. I do of course enjoy group activity. The Woodland Workout was the example I gave.

If you have done buggerall for years and years, your body is likely to complain. Get enough sleep, vitamin D, a good balanced diet and gradually upping your activity level ( not just with running but walk, swim, join a gym, go dancing etc) will all help. You are heading in the right direction.

Yes way to go.Even having a good laugh about buggerall and laugh like a drain and until your sides are sore helps.😂😂😂Just do not do it in public.😂😂😂

in reply to ju-ju-

Thanks JuJu, yes am cycling when my little legs will allow and walk alot too. I like the idea of my body complaining, so I can shut it up!!

Thanks folks for your helpful comments, I may be overweight but i’m on top of my diet, tried fasting (successfully, still apply it) I was asking if it was the change in regime itself that could be causing tiredness. X

I remember feeling very tired when I started C25K. Would nod off at my desk after lunch most days (I am a morning runner). Cannot remember when exactly it turned around, but I now have more energy than I had in my 20s! Have been running post-grad for 4 months.

Get to bed earlier and keep up the healthy eating, water intake. If it doesn’t improve by graduation, go see your GP for advice.

You are doing grand. 😀

in reply to Sadie-runs

Thank you Sadie runs! Going to bed in a minute 😆 just kidding but I will go earlier for a couple of weeks and see if it helps 😀

😂😂😂

I too am a bit of a restless sleeper, and my eyes 👀 ping open at 5:15ish most days. Which is handy for my pre-work early run, but not so amusing for my partner when I start drooping dramatically by 9pm most nights! I am kinda resigned now to being in bed before 10pm. Warm milk and a good book sets me up nicely. Hope your fatigue abates soon. I am sure my knackereredness stemmed from going from barely any activity to running three times a week! x
