Yes it has. For one thing it highlighted how little I was doing which spurred me to do more

Yes it has. It highlights how little you move during a normal day so makes you go out for that extra walk to get your steps in

Like anything, the Fitbit is a tool, it's how you use it that matters... In my case, I got one last May, and I am a heck of a lot fitter (and 2 stone lighter) than I was then. That's not because I bought a Fitbit, it's because the Fitbit was a sign that I had a reached a point where I was more interested in my health and wellbeing. It's an encouragement in the sense that I get some good data back, and it's in daily use almost 12 months later. My weight loss has tailed off, but then I got out of the habit of recording all my meals etc. on the app when I went on holiday - that's not the Fitbit, that's me.

I find the occasional bit of encouragement it gives me (completed a badge for example) a nice little boost, but of itself the Fitbit hasn't made me fitter - that was my choice!

I have wanted one for ages, but Mr R was not keen as he felt it didn't do anything my phone couldn't do. Then my friend offered me her Fitbit Alta for a ridiculously bargain price! I love it. I definitely move more than I did, and love trying to beat my targets. (The other night I was 14 mins short on activity, so the dogs got a late evening walk which wouldn't have happened otherwise!)

Why did my friend sell it? She'd bought it in the hope it would motivate her to be more active. It didn't. She just didn't care about meeting the targets, earning the badges etc. Moral of this story: the motivation has to come from within you - by if you have the right approach, the Fitbit can be very helpful. :)
