Any Fitbit users out there?

My husband bought me a Fitbit last Friday (wedding anniversary present). I'm looking for fellow users, anyone who can help me understand how it works (especially the food log) and generally for motivation/sharing tips.

Hi,

My wife and I got one about 9 weeks ago and it's worked really well. Some tips.

1) The food database isn't UK based so you have to enter your own food. I also created a food item called "Quick Add" with 1 Calorie. If I want to record something that I don't eat very often I use that and set the Serving Size to whatever the real calorie count is.

2) Set it to email you when the battery is getting flat

3) I bought the Premium package on the website, but I don't think it's worth it. I haven't used it.

4) You can set Fitbit to work with a number of other websites like Endomondo and MyFitnessPlan. I tried MFP as it has a UK food database, but in the end I just went back to my "Quick Add"

5) The sleep function is fun, see when you wake up at night!

6) I use the Alarm Feature. It's silent, so doesn't wake your partner. You can set this on the PC and have different times for each day.. Great if you exercise in the morning

7) Don't worry if it doesn't count your steps 100% accurately. Just use it to monitor your activity from day to day. Quite often you'll find yourself going out for a walk to get these extra 1000 steps

8) Don't bother to log running/walking activities manually (e.g. from a Garmin or fitness app) Fitbit is good at tracking how strenuous you've been.

Enjoy your new gadget, and please ask if you have any questions.

Thanks for the tips, Corius. Excellent one re the calories. I've started to add some of the foods (and wine!) I consume regularly but the quick add is a great idea. I've now set all my alarms but whether I pay them any attention at the weekend is another matter!

How do you link to other account? I can see "Applications" under settings but no obvious way to add them.

The apps are linked from the App that is linking to Fitbit. For more info go to "Services"-"App Gallery & Partners" at the bottom of the Dashboard. That will show which Apps can link, and if you select "Learn More" it will tell you how to do it on the target App and provide a link.

I have one too, I tend to use MFP for food though, as you can add all your own foods to that anyway. I love mine :)

I agree that I find MFP easier to log food and activities but then the fitbit will ajust this activity count acording to the recorded activity. i find the fitbit really useful for logging my fluid intake as i tend to forget to drink. I am addicted to my fitbit and MFP and check on th constantly throughout the day. I misplaced my fitbit a couple of months ago and lasted less than a day before going to buy a new one. I then found my original! So I now have a backup fitbit

I don't bother logging activity on MFP unless it's something the FitBit can't be used for like swimming or strength training, as all the calorie deficit magic is drawn from my activity on FitBit anyway.

I won my FitBit in a work competition, I'd been looking at buying one anyway, but couldn't really justify the cost - so I was totally chuffed to get my hands on one!

I check on both too! I'm MinxyMissK on both if you'd like to add me?

Feeling a bit stupid having to ask but what is MFP please? :)

MyFitnessPal :-)

I've got a FitBit (just the basic step counter one) and I LOVE it! I would also endorse others recommendations on here to use MyFitnessPal to log your food (it's got a much better mobile app and a far better food database to choose from) but link it to your Fitbit account. What happens is whenever your FitBit syncs with your computer then any extra calories earned through exercise/activity will be credited to your MFP account automatically.

I've clocked up nearly 4 million steps so far this year ..... hope to reach 6 million by 31 December

Thanks Pastyman, I'll check it out!

I love my fitbit - I've got the basic version which does everything I need it to. Initally bought it as an incentive to get walking when I managed to give myself a stress fracture running :( I have it linked with myfitnesspal to keep track of weight and food intake. If any one wants to add me as a friend feel free - //fitbit.com/user/267G34

Would anyone be interested if I set up a NHS C25K group on fitbit?

Sounds like a good idea if there are enough of us. Have to admit though, I haven't actually worked out how to join any groups on fitbit yet :(

Have you set up the group? Can't see one. Only a couple of the groups look active but I'd join one.

Just joined the community here but have had a Fitbit One for about 3 weeks now and I love it. About to start week 4 of the C25k tomorrow as well and I log everything through MFP. Would love to join a Fitbit/C25k to try and keep myself motivated.
