Running shoes, thoughts appreciated

I'm a relatively new c25k-er and am thinking I need better running shoes. I'm not a label/brand freak but i am also a bit wary of own brands like those at Decathlon. While I am not running marathons I figure I don't need really ex pensive shoes, does anyone have any recommendations? Advice appreciated 😊

What have you been running in until now and have you experienced any significant niggles/twinges/injuries?

Even if you don't buy from the shop go and be measured and fitted for the best shoes you could buy if you had the money. You can then either order on the Internet or buy cheaper knowing what to look for.

I recently bought an expensive pair after being measure accurately and I can tell the difference.

You'll basically get as many recommendations as replies, as preferences depend on so many things - not least the shape and size of your feet, and how you land (on the inside, the outside, or evenly on the middle). I have wide, flat, overpronating feet, so what suits me will be utterly wrong for you if you have narrow feet and run on the outer edges.

Best thing is to go to your local running shop if you possibly can. They should be able to do a gait analysis and find a pair that suits both the way you run and your feet. Some places will even exchange the shoes a few weeks down the line if they don't work out, for extra reassurance.

My local shop have also offered me shoes from their sale as happily as full-priced ones, so I'm pleased that I've got a good deal both times.

I got Karrimor tempo trail shoes from sportsdirect, half size bigger than my day shoes. Fine straight out the box. I liked em so much, I got another pair for the road. I still have them 🙂

They come in a range of colours

You need to find a local sports shop that provides gait analysis as everyone runs differently and therefore you need to be tested to ascertain which shoes are most suitable for you. Once you have had the gait analysis and have been given the best recommendations for you, if they are expensive in the sport store you will be at least armed with the correct information to be able to go away and find them at a better price online or elsewhere!

I went to Decathlon. I had a gait analysis and was recommended two pairs of shoes. I chose their own brand and they are good, plus reasonably priced. I was pleasantly surprised. This was after I went to a specialist running shop where they were very snooty.
