I finally managed to get out to do my W6R2 but it was nothing but rubbish!
Went at the wrong time so there were walkers, dogs and other runners around,
I've been getting pain in my shins for the last few weeks when I do the walking bit but today it was during my running bit too,
After deciding that I might go back to the running shop to discuss how my new trainers, which help with my Morton's neuroma, might be causing the shin splints I avoided a massive puddle by walking out onto the grass only to realise that the rain had caused it to become a bog so now have really dirty trainers!
I stopped listening to Laura and got distracted with pain, wet feet and spectators that I simply gave up. Hobbled home, ate a Cadburys cream egg to calm me down and now I'm cross with myself. Cross for not stretching enough, cross for giving up, cross with myself for thinking that people are watching and judging me. I should have believed in myself to achieve the run.
P.S the only thing that was good was the lake and windmill I run around - it looks great in the sunshine!

We are human Some days really get to us. Just think though - not much of a view, or much of an episode filled post, from a Couch You've made it this far, you most certainly have proven you can Run
Oh well shi* happens. We can only regroup and go again. Taking solace in chocolate is no use π
No-one is judging you at all! No-one is watching you. They have enough to do without checking us out
None of us are perfect, we have total kerapp runs, the elastic snaps on our running bras, my toe nail fell off. The list of disasters is endless π I re-arranged my features a few weeks back but we just dust ourselves off and go again. Our poll shows that we prefer mucky trainers cos no-one seems to clean them, me included.
Yes, it might be a good plan to take your shoes back if you are unhappy with them, and in your case I would deffo clean them before returning to the shop.
You will be fine. Just cut yourself some slack and get psyched up for the next session. Have faith in yourself to nail it. This is a first class programme. Trust it
Good luck! π πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
What you say about your shins is the only thing to be really concerned about. Certainly have your footwear/gait checked out but have you been doing any strengthening exercises? More often than not it really is just a case of muscles gradually adapting to the new demands.
I spent ages in the shop having my gait checked but had never had any pain in my shin when I tried doing C25k a few years ago. I'll read up about what I could do to help. Losing a bit of weight would also be good. I'll try to do some strength exercises on my rest days - thanks for the advice.
Just come across this post and wanted to say thanks. Thank you for being so honest about your rubbish run. We all think that everyone else's journey is going so well with no bumps along the road but it's nice (although not for you at the time!) to hear that it's not all plain sailing but we get there in the end.
