Taking a little break, hopefully I won't be out of action for too long.

Hello everyone,

Next Tuesday I will be ducking out of the forums for a week or so. As some of you know I haven't been doing my beloved events for nearly a year now due to being ready and waiting in the sidelines to donate my left kidney to my husband. The time has come and we have a date set as MrRfc is ready for it now and in about a weeks time we will both go for the op. We have a lot more final tests coming up in the next few days so a busy time coming up.

I'm hoping I'm only away from here for a week from the 7th March. I've told myself I should not Post while high on morphine πŸ˜€. But as some have said it might actually be funny, I will resist. I hope to be back walking for fitness in a couple of weeks and the build up to running and then on to the strength and flex. I'm going to need all the programs to get back up and running again. Maybe a long while until I do my first marathon πŸ˜€, but never say never.

I'm leaving you in the very capable hands of Poppypug and Ju-Ju. I would like to thank them both for all their help and support leading up to this, it's been great to have them to lean on at times recently.

I'm always amazed at the different places our health journey takes us, I started C25K after losing my Mum and wanted good habits rather than going back to the bad old ones, that was 8 years ago in that time it exposed a thyroid problem I was able to get sorted and then four years ago In June I started the NHS C25K program, by the time I found this forum I was hooked. I got into my events and loved my new found energy. Little did I know that all this would be the catalyst to make me healthy enough to help my husband, after the op everything will be waiting for me to start again and I know I will be chomping at the bit to get back to it. All because I found a new hobby and this site all those years ago, MrRfc is determined to start C25K at some point and we will be getting back to our lovely long hikes as they have been on hold for a little while now.

So everyone, keep running, walking and strength and flexing and keep supporting each other while I'm away but most of all look after yourselves. This journey you are on will take you amazing places.

Take care

Rfc x.

  • Sending you and your hubby lots of love and best wishes T. All the very best on your new life together .

We will hold the fort , so you don't have to worry about anything on here . I get the giggles when I have the anesthetic at the dentist , its a rare side affect apparently. I leave the dentist in floods of laughter . Ha ha ! So it could be very interesting posting whilst on morphine :-)

We will miss you , take care xxxx

  • Thank you Pops, I know I'm leaving everything in very capable hands. I've only had anaesthetists that think its funny to start telling you a joke and then you go under and don't get the punchline.

  • All the best to both of you RFC. Take care.

Just one morphine fuelled post would be OK, I think :)

  • Ha ha ! :-D xxx

  • Thank you, it does seem a popular request, we will have to see.

  • All the best to both of you - hope everything goes absolutely to plan. Best wishes to you and Mr Rfc - looking forward to hearing all about you both getting active again :)

  • Thank you, I'm already thinking about a getting back to walking plan to share.

  • This is a fabulous, fabulous thing you are doing - my husband's much loved aunt died last year at 80, living independently until she went into hospital, having lived and fully lived decades longer than expected due to the gift of a kidney (two in fact). Other family members have inherited the same condition so this may be in their futures.

I hope everything goes straightforwardly and that you reap the rewards of your bravery in the years to come with your husband.

  • Thank you. they can do such amazing things. Mr Rfc condition is down to genetic rather than lifestyle but strangely enough being diagnosed coeliac slowed down the progression in the last few years. I think they will find out more about this in years to come.

  • Aw bless you RFC! I hope all goes well and that you will both be up and about again real soon. Fingers crossed that all goes off all right. We'll miss you though petal, organising us all as you do. We really do appreciate it.

My niece has lost a kidney, at a very young age, and I know what a worrying time that was. She has been fine though ever since, thank goodness

We'll all be thinking of you and sending positive vibes. Just think what the combined thought power of C25k is (((((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))))) x

  • Thank you. I picked up my runners world last month and there was a great article about a guy that does ultras after kidney donation. Hehe I'm aiming on bouncing back.

  • Good on you rfc, what an amazing thing to do. I listened to a podcast recently on Spotify wbur.org/onlyagame/2016/11/... very inspiring. I can see you up and running in no time xx

  • thank you. I will have a listen to that. got some spare time coming up, so entertainment that doesn't require energy is well received.

  • All the best to you RFC and MrRFC πŸ€—

  • Thank you very much

  • Dear RFC, how did I miss all this? πŸ™„ I feel so awful that I have been coming on here for so long, and although I realised you had reasons for watching your health, did not know the whole story. What a very special thing to do for someone, I really hope things go well for you and your husband and that you are back on here and, more importantly, back to your running just as soon as you are strong enough again. Best wishes.πŸ™‚

  • In some ways it feels like we have been waiting for ages, so I didn't want to keep bringing it up, I have missed my events though. Did you know there is such a thing as event envy. . Thank you very much.

  • You know I am thinking of you and yours over coming weeks Rfc. You also know to drop me a line if you feel the need and think I can draw from my family's recent experience.

You are in expert hands and will soon be back, but make sure you do not rush at any point. Listen to your body but as Laura would say 'you can do this'.

Stay strong my love, this is a good thing from a difficult situation. Xxxxxxcx

  • Thank you so very much especially for your encouragement and uplifting posts. It has meant a lot to MrRfc as well.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Good luck. Hope all goes well. You're prepared for this, you're really fit and I'm sure everything will be fine. In a few months time you'll both be out there enjoying the summer. You really are doing something wonderful for your husband.

  • Wishing you and MrRfc a speedy and successful recovery.

What a great thing you are doing.

You will soon be back in your running shoes.😊xxx

  • Thank you. I know they will be calling out to me.

  • Like others who have had experiences around kidney problems, I think what you are doing is amazing, and to be a match for your husband is fantastic.

    Now that is love!!

Blessings to you both on the road ahead.

    Take care of each other.

  • Thank you very much, we are so lucky to be a match.

  • Good luck to you both - it is a really good thing you are doing. I am sure there is a mix of anxiety and relief the waiting is over. I know it is a big, but it is also surgery that has now been done successfully many, many times. Will be sending you positive thoughts. Look forward to your return.

  • Thank you, it has been a long wait but latest bloods show this is a great time to be going, luckily before dialysis.

  • Thank you. hehe If I remember you were the one that started the requests for morphine posts in the first place.

  • Good luck, RFC. It's a great thing you're doing!

  • Thank you

  • You are one amazing lady, and your husband is a lucky man, but I expect he knows that. All the best to both of you I hope it all goes well. I'll be thinking of you both xxx

  • Thank you so much. We are both so lucky to be a match.

  • All the best to you and MrRfC. Wish you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing you back here and on your feet xx

  • Thank you so much

  • Gosh - loads of good wishes to both of you. A friend of mine donated a kidney about a year ago, and is now back to training for his second VLM - I bet you're back to running way sooner than you expect.

  • Thank you. That's great news. hehe I already have two event lined up for this year but promised myself that I wouldn't put in for the until I could walk 5KM.

  • All the very best to you both... you'll get some brownie points for that one!! :-) xxx

  • Thank you. mmm Brownies, chocolate......

  • What a lovely thing you are doing for Mr rfc. Great that you are a match.

My Great-Niece has had kidney trouble since birth - delivered early, wasn't expected to live the night. Many operations (complete removal of one kidney and only partial function in the remaining one) later, she celebrated her 13th birthday on Sunday and is fitter and healthier than a lot of her school friends.

We need at least one morphine fuelled post. More importantly - stay off shopping sites....the things my friend has bought after taking sleeping pills is untrue πŸ˜‚

Hope things go well and that you are both fighting fit soon. 😘😘

  • Good luck - hope it all goes well x

  • You are an inspiration in so many ways RFC and you bring so much to me and the forum. I will be thinking of you and Mr RFC with the view that this will give your lives so much. I cant wait to see the morphine post :) We will do our best to keep the show on the road and thankyou for trusting us with it!!!!!! :)

  • Best wishes to both of you

  • Good luck and have swift recovery, it's a wonderful thing you are doing - all the very best to you and Mr Rfc x
