Hello

Just signed up today motivated by being told that my blood pressure is quite high. Need to lose weight so am trying to eat healthy and cut out alcohol. I'm hoping that exercise will boost weight loss and release some feel good morphins or whatever they're called.

Good luck to all.

Jane

Hi there and welcome!

You have come to the right place for the feel good factor. May not always seem that way. :) but the benefits of C25K are incredible!!

The 'morphins'...wonderful... they sound like little people.. a bit like our pesky gremlins on here..( you may meet them or read about them in folks' posts)... They can be tricky little blighters, who try to tell us we can't run...:)

Definition of feel good factor is;

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.

So... Follow the C25K programme.. and the mantra is slow and steady... you will hear that, especially from me...loads of times. It is the way to get to the 30 minute runs, injury free and hopefully having had fun en route :)

Extra exercise on non run days is good to.. anything you enjoy doing, walking, cycling swimming, yoga... etc.

Rest days are essential.. and you take more than one, if you need to. Your journey, your way.. I assume you have downloaded the link to the programme :)

Keep posting, because the support you will get is incredible... tips, advice and encouragement.. post success and set backs..( if you have any) we will be right here for you.

This is a great bunch of folk.. you are going to love it!

I second all this, but especially the rest days bit! The programme knows what it's doing and it's best to stick to 3x a week. :)

Good luck! It's made several of us hooked on running. I still can't believe I run 3 times a week...and enjoy it! I can't believe I've made it to week 8 either.

All I'd say is, if I can do it, so can you. Trust in the program...it really works! Never use the 'f' word, either. If you have an off day...it's a practice run 😉

Thank you - I've never run except occasionally for a bus and still can't quite believe I've signed up for this but I'll give it a good go.

I was inspired to do this by my doctor telling me I was a bit too fat. It really does work, and you'll be amazed at the progress you make! It helps you lose weight without going too hungry (I love food, so it was always gonna be more exercise and not a strict diet!). Minus any alcohol since January (not a big drinker anyway), c25k for 6 weeks and some weight training, and I'm 13lbs down. So I can vouch that it does work!

Just don't get disheartened at the start, we all have that 'my god, I can't run 60 seconds!' Moment and want to hide under the bed from shame, but it passes fast, and those endorphins really do make you happy about what you're achieving!

Please check with your doc that you're good to go on this, though as anyone with any medical issues should get that sign off first! (I had all manner of tests searching for a medical reason for my weight, before being told I was just fat.)

Good luck with it, and stick with it, even when it's being difficult! :)

Thank you - my doctor did recommend walking more so I guess that's how I'll start - fast walking before I start to run.

thank you Peggy - to have somewhere to report successes and failures is a very good motivator - a bit like going to a slimming club and facing the weigh in.

Exactly but it's much much more fun ! Look forward to reading your posts as you progress.... because you will !....😀😄

Welcome to the family. Great decision to improve your fitness, you will feel so much fitter and healthier (and happier) in a few short weeks. From my experience, the losing weight bit is tricky and I even managed to gain weight while running but this was because I didn't track food and thought I could eat anything now I was active. I found a free App called My Fitness Pal, it allows you to look at calories, log all the food you eat too, I have lost 2 stone 8 lbs now
