Hi I'm on wk2R3 on C25k and I'm running on the treadmill between 9-10km and walking at 6km , this week I added a small incline at 2 , I'm just wondering how can I track how many km I'm actually doing at the end of the 30min ?
How do I track my distance : Hi I'm on wk2R3 on... - Couch to 5K
How do I track my distance
Every treadmill I've used gives a readout at the end showing distance and calories
Welcome and well done for getting to the end of Week 2! Does the treadmill not tell you how far you've run? To be honest, I've found treadmills to be unreliable anyway. The best way to track distance and pace is to run outside! I understand that you might not want to (no one understands that more than me - I was terrified to until I was on Week 7) and the weather is miserable at the moment. It's much better than treadmill running though, I promise! You can use loads of free phone apps to log your distance and even if you don't want to take a phone you can check your distance on google maps or check my mapping your route on walkjogrun.net. Perhaps something to think about and work towards if you don't like the idea of outside just yet.
Thank you , I'm still very new to this but my goal is to actually run outdoors come spring maybe even sign up to an actual 5k . Unfortunately right now it's -19 here in Montreal and the ground is covered in ice and snow but I'll definately be checking out your links , thanks again 😊
Ignore me - that's a good reason not to run outside if ever I heard one! Brrrr it's making me cold just thinking about it! Perhaps if your treadmill doesn't tell you distance it's not necessarily a bad thing. Early on in the programme it's best to just run for the specified times and not to get hung up on distance and speed. You can focus on that when you've completed the programme. Saying that, I enjoyed tracking my distance during the programme but it's not an absolute necessity if you can't do it at this stage.
It probably does but I haven't figured it out yet it's a new treadmill at the gym called curve or something like that its supposed to be like running on pavement ... lol I started running last Monday and have run 30 min every day and have never felt better or more motivated , I repeat each run C25K for the alternate day ... have you been at this long , progress
If the treadmill doesn't tell you how far you've gone, a bit of maths will do it for you!
So, speed = distance/time, therefore speed x time = distance
You walk at 6 km/h for 5 minutes, or for one-twelfth of an hour, so 6km/h x 1/12 hours = 0.5km. Multiply by 2 (as you both warm up and cool down for 5 minutes) and your distance is 1km.
For the actual running bit, running at 9km/h would look as follows:
9km/h x 0.5 hours = 4.5km
At 10km/h it would look like this:
10km/h x 0.5 hours = 5km
The fact that you're running for half an hour actually makes this bit really easy to work out- just divide your average speed by 2.
So you're running 4.5-5km, depending on your exact speed, plus an additional 1k for warm-up and cool down total.
Hope this helps!
