Happy New Year to all on the forum.

Tonight I went out for my first run in more than 3 weeks. I was floored by a nasty cold/cough type lurgy in the build up to Christmas, many of my plans for the festive period didn't happen, including Christmas Eve/Day Parkrun. I coughed so much that I pulled a muscle in my abdomen :-(

I managed to get to my usual Aquafit class on Wednesday, but it wasn't until yesterday that I really felt more or less 100% back to normal. I decided to to get out for a run tonight (I usually run on a Saturday) but I really didn't know how much I would manage after such a long break, and being under the weather. I decided to take it very easy, not to push myself, and see how far I got. In the end I had a much better run than expected. I did 25 minutes at a steady pace, and the ankle that I hurt towards the end of last year held up really well! No pain or swelling. I can't tell you how much of a confidence boost tonight's run was. Onwuards and upwards!

I ran with MapMyRun! Distance: 4.33km, time: 25:33, pace: 5:54min/km, speed: 10.17km/h.

Well done! It's hard getting back after a break - that sounds a very good pace too!

Great news. Glad the ankles held up, always a worry.

Really good pace, I'm jealous. I see you're really close to the botanical gardens, can you run through there? That would be a lovely route.

I'm not too far away from the Botanics. I've sometimes run in Inverleith Park next door which is nice. I generally use the Leith to Roseburn cycle path which is well away from the traffic, and the waterfront.

Thanks for the encouragement. I've learnt that it takes longer than I think to fully recover from injury or illness. You really do have to listen to your body!

Well done Rosie958 .😊

I've had that too, just beginning to think a run sounds doable... but throat still a bit sore..

Glad you are better and enjoyed a successful run. xxx
