Sorry if this is a bit of a daft question, but I have been reading through quite a few posts and many people mention Laura. Who is she? And why don't I know her?? I have the BBC app downloaded to my phone which I use to guide me through my walk/jogs (not really running yet!) and the voice in my ear comes from Jo Whiley, but I checked my app and there's no Laura! I feel like I'm missing something.
Who is Laura?: Sorry if this is a bit of a daft... - Couch to 5K
Who is Laura?
nhs.uk/livewell/c25k/pages/... On this page you will see a link to each week. Underneath it has a link to download podcasts from itunes. I did try the podcasts that you had, but much preferred the ones with Laura. Its just a matter of taste really. I've found that she gives you information about how long you have been running, just when you need it to motivate you to go on.
Laura is on the Nhs podcasts which are the original way to do the programme. She gives you lots of tips and encouragement along the way usually at exactly the right time. You will hate her at times but by the end you love her!!
If you do the podcast version, that comes with its own music, the bearability of which is often a subject of much discussion here but it is tailored to the activity and means you are not sitting on your couch fiddling to achieve the perfect playlist when you could be out running. It's a kind of rite of passage.
And Laura is the coaching voice... and the merit of Laura is that she has done the programme (I don't know about the 'celebrity' voices used for the app - they may have) and at one time was a participant in this forum.
Ah, the lovely, sometimes annoying Laura. And let's not forget her pal Julie...........now with Julie it is definitely a love or hate thing. Yes the music can annoy some but I actually quite liked it.
Once I had graduated I used my own music sometimes, sometimes replay week 9 with Laura etc. I also use the 5k+ podcasts occasionally, again with the lovely Laura.
Whatever you listen to, happy runningππΌββοΈπππΌββοΈπππΌββοΈ
I like Julie and love Laura! Off for a run in battersea park now and am taking them both with me!
Lol i had jo whiley too its the oneyou app isnt it, Jo was quite pleasant, i did try Sarah Millican i think it is but she was a bit annoying x
I love Sarah millican on mine. hate music when I am out, don't wear headphones like to hear the birds and the trees. just need told when to run and when to walk.
The app I use is one I found on the app store on my windows phone. It literally just prompts me to "run" or "walk" or tells me "halfway" "cooldown" and "complete". It's brilliant for me. I think the idea of Laura telling me I'm doing great etc would annoy me! byut everyone is different, a friend of mine thinks I'm mad to just have demands told to me in my ear instead of music etc. So we are all different. I don't like music when I run or do any work outs to be honest, even though I listen to music a lot. There are quite a few different C25K apps out there
I first 'met' Laura through the NHS Choices Strength and Flexibility exercises podcasts, which she does as well as Couch to 5K. When I took up C25K I didn't realise that the apps were different from the podcasts, so I just carried on with her. I'd definitely recommend the podcasts/her. Although the music used wouldn't be my natural first choice, I've grown to like it and find it quite motivational. I think if I just has silence or had to organise my own stuff I'd be less likely to do it.
And I look forward to 'meeting' Julie. I didn't know about her! (I've just done W1R3.)
Kneel before Laura!
Laura is the goddess to be worshipped on the NHS C25K podcasts. She is truly up there along with the jammy dodgers. The only greater deity is Julie. It is purely the knowledge of her future arrival that keeps the early weeks worth the challenge. Also follow the great Laura on the Strength and Flex podcasts - soon you'll be doing press ups, squats, bench dips and more as you follow the weekly podcasts.
Kneel before Laura!
I am in awe of her wonderfulness. Thank you for enlightening me
