So excited I'd managed to complete the three runs of week 4 yesterday after getting a bit anxious last weekend at the prospect of a seemingly big jump in running time! Trusted it must be possible and afterwards had to refrain from telling all the dog walkers I passed I was able to trot for a whole five minutes I was so excited π
As I'd bought a bargain pair of running trainers to start the programme, and I've proved to myself I can stick with it and that I may not be always able to use my usual unpaved route along a towpath and nature reserve, I thought I'd combine a trip to London today for a day school with braving a running shop for some new trainers. However I've come away sad faced and empty handed π I'm on a bit of a budget but thought maybe Β£60/Β£70 could get me a decent pair... The cheapest pair were Β£83, all the others were Β£100+!!! I arrived just before some proper runner types and it got busy, so I can only guess being a tubby stumpy Shetland pony type I wasn't taken seriously, there was no offer of any sort of gait analysis, just told that having a high instep, neutral trainers are fine and left to it. Decided to head home instead π not sure I'll be able to brave doing that again, not for a while anyway...
O that makes me so angry people treating you like that!! Not all shops will be like them you deserve the full works! I was lucky & had a local run shop which was recommended to me & they were excellent ok expensive!! But after how you were treated I'd go back demand a gait test get fitted for trainers, take a note of the make(mine were brooks ghost8) , then say you will think about it! Go home go online & I guarantee you they will be cheaper on line!! I was chuffed with mine but when I checked on line Β£50 cheaper!!!!! Honest!!!! So would be in your budget. π the shop don't deserve your business! Ok I know it's a bit cheeky but they should have been nicer too you! I got over my shock at the difference in price because they did take the time & were really nice & encouraging as I told them I was doing c25k & thought a bit daft at my age59 yrs YOUNG!! But they said no it was never too late to start runningππ so true as now 2 more runs before I graduate!!! I must admit planning getting another pair the same from onlineππ & 1000 MPs running socks( ones with double liners) are great! WELL DONE on all your runs & keep going!!πππ
Thank you π And go you for your last 2 runs! ππ» I didn't think I'd even be able to do the minute in the first week let alone 5 minutes just 3 weeks later, it's a pretty remarkable programme!!
I'm sure I'll get sorted out with some magic trainers. I've got over at least going out in public looking like a character from little Britain in my leggings - so far none of the dog walkers or runners I pass has lost their breakfast or audibly sniggered π
Your right it's a remarkable programme! O I was same the thought of being seen out running was as scary as trying to run! Being over weight as I am & older really knocked my confidence but I run with headphones on & I get carried away with the music & never notice folkππok if I see someone coming towards me I do try to run a bit faster ha ha!! But that goes to show me I can do it then!!! Keep going & keep postingππx
For much less than that you can get neutral Karrimor Tempo. Choice of colours too. I would go half a size up. I got a pair of road ones but they do a trail version so,I got those too. They kept me going all the way through the programme and out the other side. I still have them nearly 3 years on βΊ I use one pair for walking the dog and the other for exercise DVD-s at home.
If you go to another running shop and have gait analysis, ask to see last year's models too! You don't have to buy the latest more expensive ones βΊ
I buy shoes from many seasons back as you get to prefer specific models. They get harder to source thoughπ
Many thanks for the advice π It's a bit of a minefield for a beginner, especially with absolutely no previous athletic/sporting experience to call on. I've got some straightforward adidas running trainers that have got me started but I'm liking the sound of trail ones as with the wetter ground it's getting a bit slippy... I'll have a look... π
Grrr! Some people are not very helpful! Do you have any outlet stores near you, or a sports direct if there is nothing else? Sports shoes.com if you know what you are looking for.Should be able to get something good on your budget - I have yet to pay more than that! Good luck.
