I've done it! Week 9 completed.

I haven't posted in here before but felt I had to share my achievement.

My husband and I decided to attempt C25K back in February but I really struggled. I couldn't even complete week 1. I eventually got a bit better and progressed to week 2 and then my husband pulled a muscle and as we had our daughters wedding coming up we thought we couldn't risk any injury so stopped running.

In June a friend started a FB group to offer encouragement to C25kers and we joined in.

It was slow progress but I started getting better and even did wk 4 while we were on holiday.

We've had a few breaks when we've been away from home but we have now completed Wk9. I couldn't believe it when we ran past the spot where I had stopped gasping for breath on Week1.

We actually continued running to get to 5k which we did in 38minutes.

So what next?

We now feel the need to continue and as there is a steep, long hill at the beginning of our route (we walk most of the way up it at the moment before starting our run) I want to be able to tackle that without stopping.

Does anyone have any suggestions for tackling hills and extending our runs?

Is there a 5k210k app?

Karon

Well done! Congratulations

There is a free download of C25k+ Stepping stones podcasts. 3 separate Podcasts to move your running on. All voiced over by Laura of c25k fame. After those there are various bridge to 10k podcasts but I like Sami Murphy ones the best

Congrats to both of you - it's a great feeling, isn't it!

Regarding hills - shorten your stride and pump your arms more. It works. Honest.

Best of luck!

Well done, terrific achievement.

Good advice above. Why not join Parkrun too?

You could tackle the hill by running earlier each time, just walk the other way for a minute, then turn round and you will begin running 1 minute from top of hill. Then start running further away from the hill top etc. But don't increase the amount of hill too quickly to avoid strain and injury etc.

Hills are good to get to grips with, it means you can have a go at most routes, variety is the spice of life!

Happy running👟🏃🏻😃

Congratulations! Are there any less steep hills you could start with? Still a good idea to do a small part of the slope to start with. Another way of getting a bit of the steep one in would be to turn around when, or just after, you start running, run a very short way down then turn round and run up. That way you would avoid starting straight away with something steep and could gradually increase how much you do, or turn around more than once. Thinking about ways to manage hills better myself at the moment.

Well, Having finally completed the C25K, hubby and I both went down with a chest infection which has had us out of action for the last fortnight. I can't see us running until at least next week and hope that we don't end up having to go back to week 1 again :(
