Well done - sounds like you've made a great start!

Don't be self-conscious - honestly people hardly give you a second glance.

It is hard - no surprise that you are tired and gasping. We all started where you are and have gone to amaze ourselves. You can do this!

Well done! Your making a great start! Don't worry about people, they usually mind their own business..😊

If you're really gasping at the end of the runs, try going slower! Sounds obvious, but it is about gently building up stamina at this point. Slow and steady wins the race! Good luck🙂.

Hiya. I too have quit smoking, 6 weeks ago now. I don't know how long you have quit for but I have found that the breathing gets easier after the third week or so. I have just done wk2r1 btw, and feel great. 😀

You will have finished the hardest week of all - the first one :) Read as many posts as you can here, and you will see that absolutely you can run :)

BTW - you just, unless I am reading it all wrong (perfectly possible with me LOL ) - turned 50 a few months ago? Well - I am 56, started this programme on June 1st having literally never run more than a hundred steps in my life, asthma, bilateral almost-club-foot, had quit a twenty plus a day nicotine habit of almost forty years and about fifty pounds overweight, did firts day in jeans and crappy old trainers...and I just this morning ran 3.5 miles without stopping :)

Read the early posts of us lot and you will see that you are not going to be 'terminally unique' and that if you take it slowly, forget about 5k in 9 weeks but concentrate on building time/stamina, trust the programme and imagine us all running with you - you will, I promise, some day be bitching here , like me, about the fact you cannot run 5K in twenty minutes or some such phenomenal time :)

Best wishes, stay and run with us :)

LOL - I thought you might be using the Gealic word for '5', equaling the month of May, and '1975' being your birth year :) Oh wait...I miscounted the years LOL So it would work out to 41! Dang - even when I'm wrong I'm rights LOL :) Now - if your birthday is in MAY...I haven't lost my touch :)

but - and vastly more importantly - very best wishes for your running :)

Cuig was the name of a wee jack Russell terrier I had when I was younger he had 5 spots !!! So CSI Ireland may sign you up for their next season ! Thanks for the good wishes I've been reading some earlier posts and most people have felt like I feel at this point

I'll decline the invitation - better deal with live nutters in my Park than dead bodies anywhere :) As for your early days, yes, they are early and yes we all felt like battered rat-crap at the beginning - but keep on with the programme and you will be like us now - feeling like battered caviar ;)

Well done, you've done the hardest bit - getting started. You will find the forum full of lovely, helpful people who are generous with advice and support. You may start doing this for health reasons but be reassured before too long you will do it because you are addicted and, dare I say it, enjoy it :-D Look forward to hearing about your journey. Happy running :-)
