Week 5 run 2 completed!

So I came back from my cruise yesterday. I stopped trying to post updates as the ship's wifi was so flaky, but I didn't stop my runs. I could hear you all yelling at me to keep it up even over the roar of the ocean! In the end, I managed 6 of the possible 7 runs I could have done if I'd run every other day. Where possible, I took to doing my run on the treadmill just before the ship left port as it meant I could use my energy on running rather than trying to stay upright, but I made sure I enjoyed the port first. We had to delay transit for a day across from Iceland to Norway to avoid rough seas in the N Atlantic, so I completed week 4 looking out over Reykjavik. I did week 5 run 1 on a choppy sea day and managed it, but it wasn't much fun, and I decided it would be silly to do run 2 on our final day for the sake of it and end up injuring myself.

Went back to work today, and had pretty much decided I would run tomorrow when I am working from home all day. Then around 5.45 pm after I came home, a weird thing happened - I really wanted to run. So I went off to the gym and did week 5 run 2 and really enjoyed it. I'm sure the final run this week will be a challenge, but I'm not going to let the gremlins get into my head. I did my fair share of eating and drinking all the wrong things on the cruise, but my clothes are still fitting, my husband says I look trimmer, and I think I have come back fitter overall because of the runs. Walks in port were easier than expected too. Now it's back to sensible eating and onwards and upwards. I'm going to stick to the treadmill for now, because it is helping me to pace myself, and I think it will stop me making excuses during the winter when it gets colder and my workload always peaks.

Laura hasn't yet told me I am a runner, but I am starting to feel a bit more like one. Looking forward to being able to read how everyone else is getting on again too. I've missed you! ๐Ÿ˜€

Well done you! Very jealous of your Icelandic view run!

I start week 4 runs next week (fell a week behind after my holiday and thought it best to redo a few runs before moving on).

I'm enjoying it too and finding stamina increasing. Not noticing myself getting trimmer yet though.. Although I could eat more sensibly!

Nice to read your progress! Enjoy your runs this week!

Thank you! My husband is very biased .... I probably don't look any different! He was very good at encouraging me to run on the ship though - he hates running himself, but thinks it's great that I am doing this because it should be sufficiently flexible to fit round my work life. He has the same problem as he travels a lot - he left home for a flight to Germany at 4.20am this morning! He tries to book hotels with swimming pools to exercise that way.

Just had a salad - at least I can claim the motivation is healthy eating even when I just can't be bothered to cook!

Hope you have a great week too!

Welcome home! Your cruise sounds fabulous. 6 out of a possible 7 runs is so disciplined when you're on holiday and then a run when you got home? Sounds like the addiction is kicking in๐Ÿ˜†

Enjoy run 3 and feel very proud of yourself โ˜บ

Thank you, McFitty! Cruise was a lovely relaxing break and other than one rainy day, we had sunshine when it mattered so all the ports looked beautiful. It was strange to think the weather was too bad to sail to Norway on a sunny Icelandic day.

I think you might be right about the addiction. I hope so. Is mysteriously acquiring a drawer full of running gear another symptom? (Don't worry, I do remember paying for it, but didn't realise quite how much I have!)

Thank you - obviously managed not to hit the buffet too often! My ankles hurt a bit during the run and are still a bit sore this morning, but I am hoping it will wear off when I start moving around a bit more. I need to go to the shops and was going to swing round there in the car after my optician's appointment in town this afternoon, but I think I might walk up there this morning instead and see if that helps. I really want to do run 3 tomorrow to keep within the calendar week, but I guess it isn't the end of the world if I wait an extra day if I'm still sore tomorrow. Better than making them worse.

An extra rest day might be helpful - it won't matter a jot if the programme takes a bit longer.

True. They feel much better now that I have walked around a bit, so it is obviously nothing much. I wonder if the treadmill here is a bit different to the one on the ship, and I need to adjust back again. It did feel a bit slippery last night. Thinking back, I found the first ship run a bit uncomfortable, but then got used to it. I'll see how I feel tomorrow and take a view then.

Sounds like a wonderful trip you have been on :) . You did well to get the runs in and I am sure you'll keep up with your progress. You won't want that drawer of running gear to go to waste, now will you? ;)

What a fantastic way to do the programme! Such dedication too to be doing it while on holiday. Sounds like you're doing absolutely brilliant. There are suggestions there that you might be falling in love with running too... Somehow that's what the C25k does to us! Only a few runs and Laura will call you a runner, it will feel amazing and you'll deserve it! Well done!
