My new running mate - eventually

Meet Peanut the two year old Sprocker spaniel who is to train as my canine running companion. He is the same yeti who a few weeks ago was here sprawled on my lap but is now bathed trimmed of all the matted knotty bits. I have to get him walking nicely first - at the moment he would trip me for sure. πŸ˜€

Ah lovely doggy! There is a little dog like yours being trained at my Parkrun to sit nicely with the marshall as lots of distracting things pass by.

They are such bundles of energy I'm sure he'll make the perfect running pal. He will be an angel post run. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz A tired dog is a good dog.

That sounds like a good training idea. At the moment he barks at other dogs and cats when is on the lead. Maybe I need to sit on a park bench with him one afternoon πŸ˜€

It's a bit of practice but it's very rewarding running with a dog. Even your worst runs feel great wth a friend.

I've just discovered a workshop at a local dog training centre on learning to run with your dog. It's in a secure environment - sounds like a brilliant plan once he's over the basic training and settling in. πŸ˜€

I run with my teenage daughter. Haven't got her trained yet!

He is being very good - I have a feeling he's lulling us into a false sense of security. Especially after the tales from his previous home 😎

What a beautiful dog! I always look enviously at other park runners who are running with their dogs. Looks so much more fun with a companion πŸ˜πŸ•πŸ‘

I can't wait to get started. We have a long way to go yet though. He doesn't even walk nicely on a lead - running would be lethal. πŸ™ƒ

He looks so obedient in the picture like butter wouldn't melt!

We use a halter - Gentle leader, excellent couldn't' manage without it. How's the training going?

OldPossum profile image
OldPossumβ€’ in reply toskysue16

He's usually pretty good at class and getting better at home. We now have a halter head collar lead which is much better but the little bug**r has already learnt how to take it off πŸ™„

I'm taking him to be assessed to see if we can start agility training tomorrow.

Halters are great, maybe it needs tightening! Best of luck with agility assessment, he will love that.

My dog doesn't like the lead but loves going out for a run and doesn't run too far in front. She seems to love running rather than walking and especially without the lead. I hope you get through the training to enjoy running with peanut.

I don't know if it's a good idea letting her sit on a grass coloured rug though!

OldPossumβ€’ in reply toOldWheezer

We've already had that accident - we weren't quick enough to stop him 😁 No problems today - hopefully.

Oops I just realised I changed his sex in one sentence. I just happen to currently have a girl and now every animal I see is a "her".

I now have 2 boys and a girl. I rarely get them right anyway. And I always get other people's dogs wrong πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Gorgeous! Our Springer recently had a clip/groom and looks very smart, dries off quicker too. I have bought a waterproof treat bag in pets at home so I can reach the treats easily as I run. Have fun!

Oh my goodness, he's gorgeous!!! I have two cockers, tried the C25K with both of them on the lead last year, lasted till the second 60 seconds then went down, burst lip, hands and knee! Should have known better really!
