Did a 30 minute run this morning which my Garmin forerunner 15 is insisting was 3.4 km while my Health App, linked to my Withings Activity Watch, (they've upgraded the app to track runs, just AFTER I bought the garmin, which might have to go back on ebay if it doesn't buck up) is saying 3.4 MILES.
Totes confused: Did a 30 minute run this morning... - Couch to 5K

Tee hee... this tech stuff...so temperamental! My Garmin is playing up.. no idea why..I am using my phone to monitor my runs at the mo'...I think the heat in France is affecting it
I had a similar issue yesterday evening. I ran the 1st run of week 9 (30 mins) over the local park run course which I know is 5km - after 30 mins I hadn't completed the course (I estimate 0.5km to go) but MapMyRunApp was saying that I had covered 5.5km! There are various discussions you can find on the internet about the inaccuracy of smart phone running apps. Have to say that I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't really covered 5km in 30 mins - guess that's the next target!
The average GPS watch is going to do a better job than the average phone is going to do a better job than the average fitness tracker. Yes of course there are exceptions, but all of this tech is prone to error and to get an accurate length of a known route check it several times. I use both a phone with Runkeeper and a GPS watch to track most of my runs. They rarely give exactly the same result, with the phone generally clocking up the kilometres faster than the watch. On my last run it was the other way round, for no obvious reason.
You can check a route distance on Google Earth, which will also give altitude and gradient, or on other apps like Mapmyrun.
Thanks, I was thinking of trying mapmyrun as several people have mentioned it. I have tried Strava but found it a bit flaky the last few times. I've just read reviews on both Withings steel and Forerunner 15 and they both say they are accurate. I plan to map a route and then run it to see which is closer.
Hi there
Check on your garmin watch if the settings are changed to miles or km then check online on Garmin Connect to see if those settings match - mine did this for awhile until I realized that every time I plugged it in to sync it it changed back to miles... You can also confirm your distance by using google maps to measure your distance use this link: mappedometer.com/
Maybe check the settings on your other watch as well?
