This running lark is very frustrating πŸ˜– W2r3

So today I went out for run 3 on week 2, after Thursday's run I thought I would be OK and find it a doddle...... Erm nope 😞 I set off ok, it's a sunny day and temperatures were a bit higher than the other day, already 20 degrees by 10.30 am 😦 The first and second jogs I did without an issue but by the third jog my calves were on fire...it didn't help that the twins were miles behind dawdling along and my mind was half thinking about them as they were out of my sight ( they are very sensible but the tracks are busy paths with runners, cyclists, horses etc and I was more worried about someone pinching them, paranoid lol ) anyway I stopped the third jog 10 secs short and I was really frustrated with myself to start walking early 😀😀 the forth run wasn't much better and I only managed 40 secs of it 😭😭😭😭 but then I manned up, reminded myself to slow down and managed the full length of the last two jogs! Everything hurt me today and annoyed me, my bra, my trainers and my knickers πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ ( sorry tmi) the flies in my face 😑😑😑😑

I felt a bit annoyed with myself but tried to look at the positive, I did 2.67 km which was longer than any of my runs in week 1 so I must be going in the right direction, I can also run for 1 min 30 secs ( sometimesπŸ˜‚) which is a huge improvement on week 1.

Trying to stay positive! Week 3 next 😱😱

Well done for getting out there in the heat! It isn't easy!

How old are your children? Do they have somewhere safe to go for an 1 hr while you have a bit of me time and focus on your jogging?

The great thing about this programme is that you can go at your own pace too.

Sending lots of positivity for week 3 :D

Haha no help unfortunately with the kids, daddy is working away at the moment and my nearest family is an hour and a half away. I have twins that are 10 nearly 11 and my elder two are 12 and 13. ( I had all four in 3 years lol πŸ˜‚)

Where's that lovely picture gone?!

Lots of things distracting you today and the heat will have affected you big time. Don't worry. If your calves were screaming at you, make sure you've had plenty to drink before you go out next time and remember to stretch afterwards! And slow down! If I were you, I would do that run once more before tackling week 3 as week 3 can be a toughie mind wise if you haven't completely nailed week 2. You are doing brilliantly. Keep it slow and stay hydrated. You're going to be a runner! :) oh and bring back the twins - that gorgeous pic should be on your profile ;)

I need to go onto the computer because you can't change your profile pic on the tablet, how annoying lol. I need to jog on a wheel to start up my computer lol. I might just do another week 2 run to get my confidence back up before tackling week 3 I will see what my mood is like on Monday.

Sounds like a good idea to repeat week 2. I repeated both week 1 and 2 because my body was screaming at me and I'm really glad I did. I haven't looked back since. Better to take longer and stay injury free. You are doing really well πŸ˜€

Well done for keeping going :-) When ever I think the next run is going to be easy it isn't :-( and I have learned from this forum and my little bit of experience that some runs are great and some are not so great! The heat probably didn't help. I go so slow that I feel ridiculous sometimes but that really helps -) - good luck with the next one :-)

Think I'm slowly learning that too πŸ˜”πŸ˜” think I need to slow down a little and keep looking at the positives πŸ˜‰ I am doing way better than week 1 lol xx

Thats exactly it Titchy21 !! every week you look back and read or think about what you found hard the week before and you realise how far you have come :-). Really slow down - it's one of the things that has kept me on track and moving from week to week :-) keep reading other peoples posts too - then you know that what you are feeling is OK and others are feeling the same way too - we will do this :-)

Ah Titchy21 , yes the heat is a nightmare , I totally understand where youre coming from, a Massive Well done for carrying on .

This programme is very much a mental challenge as well as a physical one, you dug deep and completed it .

Take the positives and leave the rest . Some runs are going to be good and some not so good, its all part and parcel of it I think.

Enjoy your rest day(s) ( I say that very loosely with 4 children plus school holidays :-) )

Well done for today, you did it ! :-) xxx

Great! , you persevered today, now you know you can.......

Learning the slow running thing is so hard to master, it certainly was for me and others here too. It helps you keep your breath steady so you can go longer and chat to the podcast - sometimes you realise you're talking out loud, ah well!! 😌😳😑😳😊

Today you were spinning plates(child-herding) whilst running - good job!

No racing here, just go one run at a time, stick it in the bag, and if you feel you want to repeat, you get an extra tick (experience) to move on with - win - win yea, go youπŸ˜…

Slowly but surely is the key. I still had to really 'rein it in' yesterday and it's definitely not a conscious thing that I am speeding up/tensing up on these runs at this stage.

The best run I have EVER had was the one wherefor various reasons - outlined in an earlier post of mine - where I went out the door in an honestly 'Could not care less about time/distance/speed - I'm just going to have fun today' mood and decided to see how SLOWLY I could run. I had a freaking ball with it :) But for some reason, and I may have knackered myself for a while, these last two runs since I just 'had to' do 'properly...

Hopefully I will be over the foot pain I developed today and will be focusing on the right things when I run tomorrow.

Honestly - you are doing GREAT just sticking with the programme and doing it sensibly. It is NOT about 'training for running well' or 'developing proper technique' or some such 'sport' or 'competition' rubbish. It is about running to our own capacity and I doubt if any of us will ever win the Boston Marathon - but we sure as hell seem to enjoy running more than those who do win it have :)

Stay with the programme and the 'positivity' will follow ;)

Well done twinnie. It sounds like it was a toughie for you but you stuck it out and you did it.

My 3rd run on week 1 was a disaster but I didn't let it put me off so don't let this run put you off.

ive learnt over the last few weeks it's not a race against the clock. So if your body tells you to slow down then listen to it and slow the pace.

Your doing great little twinnie xx

Haha I've made the desicion that I will follow the plan. I trust it, to a point! I didn't think I could do week 2 until I tried! Tues was hell albeit I wasn't well really, yet Thursday was freaking awesome and I followed it to the letter! So regardless of today's run, I know I can do it! I am going to "try" w3 on Monday, the worst that can happen is I struggle a bit and walk more than the plan says and at that point I will reevaluate doing week 2 again, but unless I try, I won't know!

Main plan tommorow apart from gutting my living room is to sort out some decent music to use so I'm not having to switch between music while attempting to breathe πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thanks everyone x

Definitely slow down and if you're struggling that much it may be that you're running too fast. Perhaps stretch between your warm up walk and first running interval? That really helped my calves settle into the runs a lot easier. You're doing great to have stuck with it this far, keep going and your body will get more used to what you're asking of it.
