Hi I'm trying hard to get to 5k this year! Have started off with week 3 day 1 today as I have been jogging on and off since last year. My problem is I can't sustain running beyond a few minutes....so super excited about the idea of running 30 minutes and basically hoping to achieve 5k in 30 minutes done time in this life!

Welcome to the forum and a big well done for taking the first step! The C25k programme is simply amazing, following it will change your life and be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. Stretch, listen to Laura, go slowly, take your rest days and before you know it you'll be running for 30 minutes!!! You really will!!

This forum is full of incredible, inspirational people so do use it for advice, encouragement and to let us celebrate your successes with you. :)

Please do read as many posts here as possible. The '5k' is a rather arbitrary figure in that the programme really teaches you how to build up stamina - and be able to run for thirty minutes without halting. The 'speed' and 'distance' come later. :) I could not run AT ALL when I started - lots of lifelong 'disabilities' precluded, as I thought, any possibility of ever running. Yesterday I went for 28 minutes nonstop - and June 1st was when I only started C25K. :) I would really urge you to just do the programme from the beginning as it is laid out - I have no clue WHY it works, but read the posts and you will see that it DOES work. :)

I hope you stay and run with us - we are all in this together here, another thing you will see from all the posts :)

Thank you. This is very encouraging... I'm especially grateful for the advice to go slow and take rest days as well as not to focus on distance and speed, as this is precisely what I do and then get frustrated. It feels good to have the support of a community

We are many who didn't make 5k at graduation. I for one only got there a month later. I am am still not doing it in 30 minutes, but getting closer. So don't worry about speed and distance just yet. It will come later.

And of course a warm welcome. Glad you found us.
