Graduated today!

I did my graduation run this morning, and feel a real sense of achievement. I’m nowhere near 5K, but I’m running for 30 minutes non-stop which amazes me when I remember how I struggled to run three! I was miserable doing Games and PE at school, and have always found excuses not to exercise until now. I’m 57 and am determined to keep running. This forum is just amazing, heartwarming and inspiring. I love people’s optimism, and the kind and encouraging posts. I love reading about people who have battled health and weight issues and become runners. I’m hoping that by continuing to read everyone’s posts I’ll be inspired to keep running. And who knows, I might just manage that 5K one day!

Thank you! This forum is fantastic for advice and encouragement, countless people I’ve never met really helped me along, and your comment made me feel great. Good luck to you.

Congratulations. Now you are a runner. Enjoy, the 5 k will come. We’re not all whippets, your pace is what you run now, it will change. Look into your nearest Park Run, the group will carry you forward, before you know it you will do 5 k.

Thanks! I like the whippet analogy. I’m planning to start going to Parkruns once I’ve done some consolidation runs. I’m just a bit unsure about running on uneven and partly muddy surfaces having only run on pavements before. I might go along and walk the course on my own to suss it out first.

I was lucky my son took me to my 1st. However, not all Park Runs are on grass. Get your self registered, get you bar code, print it out, then one Saturday just go for it. You don’t have to run all the way, you can walk, or run. Everyone is so great and friendly. I go on my own, even in London, when I visit. >Have a great time, I know you will.

Thanks, that’s really encouraging, I’d got it in my head I had to be able to run the whole 5K in 40 minutes ish. I saw another post where someone said to volunteer first so I might do that.

Congratulations 🎈🎊 what a great achievement, that elusive 5k will come one day, it took us about a month after graduation before we managed a whole 5k and it included our warm up and cool down and took 52 minutes,

Consolidation runs of 30 minutes for a few weeks will continue to strengthen your running legs

Have fun being able to run is awesome

Oh that’s so sweet of you. I think there is so much rubbish going on in the world that it’s great to have this forum where everyone is so nice and encouraging to each other. You take care and I look forward to hearing how you get on over the next few weeks. Have fun ❤️

Congratulations. You will run 5k but not necessarily in 30 minutes but that doesn’t matter. Just consolidate for 3 weeks before running longer or faster. Well done you. 🏃‍♀️👏👏🏅🥂
