I've lost count of how many times I've attempted to re-start this programme over the past 18 months or so, having graduated in 2013 but fallen off the wagon in 2014 due to illness. So this morning I woke up, put on my running shoes and went for it! It feels so good to get back out there, even though it was right back at the start of week one again. I know I can do it again, and I know I will get there. It may take me longer this time round - I'm not getting any younger!! - but I'm determined to keep at it. It felt so good to be running again and I'm sure I'll quickly become addicted to the buzz it gives me. Good luck to anyone else who is starting out - or re-starting like me - We can do it!

Yay you! You're definitely not alone in re-starting. I first did this in Sept-Dec 2012, then started again several times the following autumn/winter, and the year after that. Last year I managed to graduate and do a Bridge to 10k plan, but once I'd run the 10k - guess what - I stopped. Started again in January this year, stopped in Feb because of a sore knee. And re-started in April - still going, and have just finished week 6 (lots of repeating weeks to build things up slowly!).

Happy running! :)

Thanks so much Rainbow, that's very encouraging to hear. I'm expecting to have a few repeated weeks along the way this time too - better to be slow and steady as you say. Good luck for the rest of the programme.

With the determination you clearly have in bucketloads, there is absolutely no doubt you will do it this time; more importantly it makes you feel good. Go for it cheeryrunner and keep us updated !

Thanks for the encouragement Ithinkican! I will keep at it, and let you know how I go. I've not been on here for a long time, and it's nice to know that it is still a lovely supportive community.

keep at it and think how well and satisfied you feel when you finish your run. It's a rgeat accomplishment and it helps processing what is happening in life too :) !

I cannot agree most with the fact that you are definitely not alone in restarting running... so many time I have restarted and re-stopped... and not only from 5 k... I went from couch to jogging a block in 20 minutes to run a half marathon in 1h50 back to couch and to struggle to run 5 k, twice and with no injuries... I am now in a good running mood, but this morning I found it VERY difficult

I honestly found myself thinking about this community to get going :)

I hope this can help you and you can find your way back into running and enjoy :)

Brilliant to hear what you've achieved and that you're keeping going even when things are tough Ocramireob. Part of it is just finding that belief in yourself and your abilities even in the face of setbacks. Thanks for the encouragement and the link.

That's the spirit - you're getting back out there :-) I too had an injury and have restarted the plan and on week 6 now already. Time has flown by. Must admit I found running in the heat a little struggle but it's all good so far. All the best :-D

Thank you, Rammsteinqueen! It's great to hear how well you're doing too. I don't need to worry so much about the heat, as I live in Scotland haha! Good luck with the rest of the programme. I'll look out for your posts on how it's going.

Scotland - ooh lovely! But you have more hills to deal with :-) whereabouts are you? We're going to the Highlands again next year - so excited!

I'm just outside Edinburgh. Hubby and I used to jog over the Forth Road Bridge when we did the programme before, and we're using it again this time round. The views are lovely and It's the perfect length once we get back to running 5k - in our hayday we were over and back in 35 mins!!! What part of the Highlands are you going to? The scenery is stunning there. Have a wonderful time. Watch out for me if you drive over FRB - I'll be the wee fat red-faced middle-aged wummin gasping for breath!!

:-D Our base is Aviemore. Honestly, it feels like our second home, we love it up there. It takes us 6-7 hours to get up there but we have two weeks this time. We take our bikes and go out most days but we go off on our own as boyfriend does the hard stuff whereas I take my time and just like to get out and do a few miles - mainly Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge. So much to do there and great for walking too. Haha I will look out for you - what a lovely part of the world to live :-)

I was a second time lucky gal! Remember when it gets hard post and ask for support. I didn't have the forum first time round but it has been a source of great comfort this time x
