So with the weather warming up and us finally getting our fortnight of summer ha ha I was wondering what tips people have for running in hot weather? I love been going out later so its cooler but as I get closer to race day I'm gonna have to train in warmer weather so if it is hot on the day I can cope

Yes it's very sticky at the minute. One tip I read about ages ago and use is to dunk my head in water before I go out. I just lightly towel dry my hair and either pin it up or stick it under a cap if it's sunny. This really cools your core body temperature and keeps you feeling cool during the run. Also, take water with you and sip from time to time during your run. I do this even for short distances in the heat and it makes me feel better.

But the best tip of all is to run very, very slowly in the heat!

I do that too, but don't towel dry, I just let it drip over me!

This has been a big problem for me running in humid Ohio. I've also been wetting my head, carrying a small bottle with a strap, and chewing gum. That seems to help. Tried wetting my shirt prior to running the other day, but it caused severe nipple chafing!

Well I didn't know this would reach to Ohio ha ha and chewing gum is interesting I've never hear dog that to cool you down so thatvmight be worth a try .... And I'm not trying the wet t shirt thing cos that would terrify the local kids ha ha

Ha ha! I can imagine their terror from seeing my bloody shirt. Yikes.

I think the gum just keeps my mouth a little less dry :)

Yeah I generally go out running at about 8/9pm when its still light but cooler but I need to try it at afternoon temps so I'm prepared for the race at the end

Vixchile (I think it was) gave me some useful tips last year, as IP said, wet your hair before you go out, and the most useful to me was to carry a wet cloth, great for wiping sweaty faces, and I sort of tucked it between the straps of my vest and it kept the front of my chest cool. I don't like the idea of chewing gum - you might choke on it if you are breathing hard.
