ahhh.. another one from the ' Katie Hopkins School of Journalism' .  His late father would be SO proud of him, I'm sure..

His father's immense wit and charm seem to have skipped a generation. Or perhaps those genes were all passed on to his sister Victoria.

Did like reply in comments below "As one of the Event Directors ( in Australian park run) I must admit I do have a particular personal predilection for pink, flying, unicorn horn toting elephants but, if you're an elephant reading this, and not quite capable of all of these things yet, it gives you something positive to aim for."

Oooh that might be the slogan on my next running top- LYCRA COVERED ELEPHANT :)

sadly there are runners- Coren obviously one of them- who feel they must dictate what everyone should do and who is and isn't allowed to go out running. Parkrun isn't for everyone- if everyone went to Parkrun no-one would be able to run!- but for those who do enjoy it, it is a brilliant way to get fit and feel the buzz of running with others on a timed course.

What a shame some people are motivated by the need to put others down.

As I say its either 'Katie Hopkins School of Journalism' ( desperation to see your name in print by saying anything outrageous)  OR saying something thinking he was being 'funny or witty' when all he ends up being is an anagram of a Cnut...

Disappointing attitude from Giles I agree, but he does tend to say things just to be provocative....

He's admitted on Twitter that his job is just to be provocative

I like guy coren's work, and finished one of his dad's laugh out loud books just last night.  I think he's deliberately lighting the touch paper.  This could pad out his column inches for weeks.

I don't think he can have been to an event as he opines that participants are middle class and white, which is patently untrue.  We should bear in mind this is the HP and not be surprised.

Hopefully a new course will be found nearby

Yeah, I listened to the interview on Radio 4, and it made me really cross. He seemed to think that he was there to play "nasty pantomime dame" rather than to engage in reasoned discussion.

HIs reply to someone on twitter about the interview was interesting - he said 'Look a news progr needs an antagonist. If I didn't go on, your guy doesn't go on and the item is dropped' - he also said later 'On another day I'd support you' (Parkrun)

Paid to be snidy and unkind. There's definitely something wrong there.

Umm... don't we already pay towards our parks with our rates? Who is next to be banned? People with dogs? Prams? Kids? Bikes?  They all make it difficult for runners, but not one of us  would say charge them. Parks are for everyone, that's the whole point isn't it?

ajwyld profile image
ajwyldGraduate in reply toCurlygurly2

oh a lot of people would surely love to ban people with docs/prams/kids/bikes...

Someone has suggested coin-slot swings, slides and roundabouts?

Must admit, what's with this trend to reference people's ethnicity? Would it be ok then to say Jewish/gay/black etc middle classes? Just odd I feel

Bazza1234 profile image

I am always amused by reference to class in the UK - it isn't really something that is thought about much here in Oz. Most people I know are "working class" ie they are not of "independent income" - this includes most of those who would like to think that they are "middle class"

Personally, I think there are 2 classes - 1 People who have to work to be able to live. 2. People who can live without working (this may be broken down into around 4 sub-classes). :) - and then again, there is always the difficulty of defining just what work really is??

For me, class has nothing to do with money or employment. It is about dignity, respect and decency.

Bazza1234 profile image
Bazza1234Graduate in reply togoonkeepgoing

If that is the case, there is still only two classes - those who have it and those who don't!! :)

Giles Coren, Times 'columnist' talking on The World at One on Radio 4, about how something is White Middle Class.

What kind of despicable person thinks like this? Surely even the vilest fat-haters wouldn't prefer we stay at home getting fatter? He is dead to me henceforth.
