Had an awesome run last night! My mum offered to go for a run with me and she's a really good runner so I thought it's a good opportunity to test myself a bit! Also it's so much more fun running with someone! I've signed up for a race for life 10K for cancer research in June so I wanted to try a longer run- my longest to date was 6.5K a week ago. It was a good night for a run, not too cold or hot, minimal wind and no rain! We ran on a straight, flat path that used to be a railway line but had been tarred over. I'd mentioned trying to go for 10K but we decided to run and see how it went and I set the pace. Kept it slow and my breathing was great, no issues at all. Before I knew it my mum said we'd reached the sign post which is about 5K so we turned back and ran towards my flat. I was amazed how good I felt, we chatted the whole time and breathing/cardiovascularwise I felt good. Legs got a bit tired by the end and felt a few niggles in the joints but nothing serious. Pretty happy with my time since it's my first attempt- did 10.2K in 1 hour 5mins! I'd read on a post on here that if you can ran a 5K you are cardiovascularly able to run 10K and its all in your mind- I can honestly say I believe that to be true! I started the couch to 5k late December last year and graduated 9 weeks later in February. Since then I've kept up running 3 times a week (apart from the odd week where I lost my mojo) and done a 5k for charity and now I can run 10K!!! This programme works so for anyone struggling in proof you can do it- I'd never run before I started the programme and I struggled to run for 1 minute at the beginning. Keep going and you'll be amazed what you can do!

Casual 10K.....!!!!

Go you! A great time for your first 10km too.

That's awesome! Good going! I'm taking inspiration from this as I work my way to 10k.
Great job, thank you for sharing!

That's brilliant, I want to do a 10K later in the year so your post gives me hope it is achievable.

That sounds amazing, and how wonderful to have your Mum to run with you. I need to move up to 10K and now you've inspired me.
What device are you using that gives those splits?
Honestly if I can do it, you definitely can too!! I use Strava- i find its really good for stats and it's very easy to use. I use the free version (I have an iphone) but I think there is a premium one too that you can pay for- not sure what else you get though!

Your pace is awesome let alone the distance!
You speeded up the second half too- brilliant, well done

Oh my, how can you associate the word "casual" with "10k" !!!!! I can just imagine you hopping around in a field with a basket of full petals..... Instead of a stressed frown and determination look.
