Calf Muscle Pain ~ One sided.

Hi to All,

Is it normal to feel pain only in one leg?.  The right leg seems to ache for a couple of days which stops me going out for a run,  just in case something happens.

Theres nothing special about the runs or the times, just a leisurely run as normal. I'm finding that the right leg takes longer to recover and was wondering if something is not right. I take a 2-3 day recovery time to ensure that I don't end up on the IC.

You think I just need to rest a little more, have a deep tissue massage or maybe another gait analysis just in case.

I think it could be the surface you run on being uneven (crowned or cambered roads, pavement with a slant). It might explain why only one leg is having trouble and why the problem resurfaces when you run again. Have a look at the surface gradient on your route.

It's the same route I've been using all the time, this has just started recently.

Hmmm interesting what boptillyoudrop49   said about uneven surfaces , worth taking note , i had a smaller problem with my left glute/hamstring , searched and found a stretch that has now helped resolve the problem .

Hi Slow_Rob

Will look into some better stretch excercises as well, maybe that will help out.

I have the same issue in my right calf,  I run on tarmac and have found the camber on some of the paths is awful so I tend to run on the roads if I have to. It's much better since I had the gait analysis done and bought my stability asics but I did pull it again but that was due to pushing too far in one run (went from 3m to 5m) silly boy.

I bought some compression socks from sports direct which I wear when running and if I'm injured I put them on overnight,  I think they help. I'm dropping the asics running plan as it's got daft leaps in distance and I'm going to follow the Hal Higdon running plan.

Hope you find your answer.

Hi Paul,

I normally run in tights, so have the compression whilst running, may try out some compression socks as a healing aid.

I will probably have another gait analysis done just to make sure. I haven't taken up any running plans. Kept up with the 5K until the beginning of March, and then went out one night and ran until I sort of felt tired. Am now doing 8K runs, maybe that's the problem🙁

Maybe do what the others say, check the suggestions out and have a rest up anyway; and maybe a few shorter runs... ? :)

How are your shoes - time for a new pair?

The shoes are fine, bought them at the same time as I started the program. I did go for another gait analysis today though, the result was the same.

Explained my situation to the sales assistant. Apparently my running shoes edge more towards barefoot than cushioned and he thinks this could be the problem. I was recommended slightly cushioned shoes such as Asic 1000's.

I did buy some Gel insoles from Lidl when they had their running promo so will insert those and see how it goes.

Not what you're looking for?
