Olympic Park - 5K Run.

Hello Folks,

It is only me dropping by for a quick chat. Well my C25K journey is almost at an end, ( all going well should complete the course in the next two weeks) and with this in mind it's got me thinking what next!?

Looked at some 10k stuff, ( tbh don't think I'm quite ready for that just yet) and have decided to do some park runs instead. Now me being me, I couldn't start any old park run in any old fashion now could I?

No, me being me had to enroll for the Olympic Park - 5k run in March and then decided to run for a charity as well. Having lost my sister-in-law a year and half ago, my mum having it, and also in support of my C25K running buddy (@ ElsieW), I have decided to run for Cancer Research UK.

The run itself will be on the 5th March 2016. It would be much appreciated and very kind of you, if I could get the good folk of C25K to make a small donation to the cause. You can find the details here justgiving.com/Sohail-Ahmed1

I thank you all for stopping by, if you do make a donation thank you in advance for your generosity, and please... there's no advertising like word of mouth (hint hint) :) :)

Saul..

Mods, if this is not allowed please let me know and I will delete the post.

Fantastic, I am sure you will be able to run 5k, all the best with that. I can't tell you what to do next, only share my graduation experience. I feel having a three times a week running routine is important so that we continue to build our lives around something we worked hard for. Running plans have not worked for me: tried a 10k plan straight after graduation and within a week, my legs were very sore. I dropped back to 3 X 30 mins to recover, then on a good day, kept running to 5k. Psychologically, knowing I could do 5k, I moved towards 3 X 5k a week. I thought "when that gets easy" I would do some more but I found that for several weeks, it was still very challenging so I stuck with that. I found trying different places to run (woods, fields, tracks) made it interesting.

On a day when the 5k was good, I felt I could run on a bit further and so I did 5.5k! That proved to me I could do more and so I just kept adding - 6,7,8 kms as I felt good. I always checked to c my legs were OK and recovered from running.

I have found a lake and just felt I could go further than 7, so ran on to 10k, which is not recommended as such but I did it. Legs were achy after, so I reduced my runs distances again a little.

I am now in a pattern - Monday: 5k tempo run (a bit faster than my usual), Wednesday: 5k slow run, Friday: 10k run at a long run pace. That is working for me right now and I love running more than ever. Julie

Well done on your progress Saul and you are wise not to attempt a 10k at this point, without further training. From your post it is not clear that you have actually discovered what we all mean when we talk about parkrun. If you go to parkrun.org.uk you will find the details of the best grass roots movement in British athletics, providing free 5k runs at hundreds of venues throughout the UK and in fact the world and brilliant support for new runners.

Forgive me if you already know this, but maybe some other readers may discover the joys of parkrun if they follow the link and I cannot praise the movement enough.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Yes I know what parkrun means, and see what you mean. Have edited the title to reflect the post better.

Thank you.
