Variable from person to person I'd think

Winter workout layering guide
And how far you're going perhaps. I like my ears covered!
Good to see my earmuffs included on there
I'd agree with most of that, it's about what I worked out for myself. I wear the jacket not a fleece at -1 - 4C, I bought gloves but they made me way too hot! Like MW I fold my buff to cover my ears, that comes off half way round but I put it back for my walk home.
Thanks for the post. I agree that it varies from person to person but this is a good guide. However, for the weather that we have now (0 to 4 degrees) I am putting more layers on. I add a hat, waterproof jacket, scarf and extra trousers which make me feel very hot in the middle of the run but I prefer to be hot than cold. I don't want to catch a cold.
Interesting. I personally find myself adding buff and gloves when still in t-shirt and shorts - which probably looks quite odd. But I pretty much wear a buff all the time.
As it say's.. It's only a guide, and a good one, it's up to each individual what they wear & how they wear it, as long as it works for you that's fine!😄
oh dear am i not wearing enough?
Went out this morning at 6am. It was -3. Wore long trousers, long sleeve top and very lightweight jacket (amazing Avon purchase!) Kept hands inside the tops until i was warm! I've tried running in more and feel too restricted.
short sleeved top and shorts, though with base layer below which I wear all year round to prevent rubbing/rashes.
I get very hot running, though would wear gloves in the cold. I do however need someone to invent a nose muff. Like ear muffs but for your nose, this is the only part of my body that has an issue with the cold.
I started running this year in training for "Survival of the Fittest" in October so I need to get used to being cold and wet, been out in my compression long sleeve top and shorts so far but I got a pair of tights this weekend but haven't braved wearing them out in public yet.
Ah, cold water acclimatisation training. I feel your pain, Wolfboy. Jumping into ponds and streams while out on a run will have people looking at you as if you have gone completely mad, and you may find yourself wondering the same thing. It is all on a good cause though - getting over the shock of very cold immersion is the value of it. The first reaction is to panic slightly if you are not used to it. I would strongly advise a merino baselayer when getting wet in the cold. Keeps you warm even when wet.
I am happy running in a t-shirt or long sleeved t-shirt if it is cold but dry and still. In rain and wind I wear a light windproof jacket.
I couldn't wear a sweatshirt or fleece over my long sleeved running tops, unless it still got a lot colder. I'd rather have a lightweight jacket on that I can unzip/zip up depending on how hot I feel.
Running leggings only come out when it is below freezing. Hat and gloves are making regular appearances now but I dont do a fleece. A thicker, short sleeved top and a light weight waterproof jacket and away I go .
I have shortened my warm down walk when its very cold and do additional indoor stretching.
I was going by the guideline that someone posted on here "Dress as if it were about 10 degrees hotter" . That's always worked for me and is not dissimilar to the guide above.
Thanks for sharing ☺
Varies from person to person, but also MASSIVELY from pace to pace. For a flat jog at the moment I'm in long stuff with a buff. Just did a hilly run in lightweight leggings and a vest (it's about 3 degrees c) and still got too hot!
I wear the same basic get up all the time, from minus 10C to plus 20 or so, snow, wind, rain.
Much above that and the capri length techno fabric capris come out and I swap to short sleeved t shirt but otherwise it is cotton leggings and cotton long sleeved t shirt plus neck buff. I have other buffs available for head and extra on my hands. Gloves if cold.
The thing that's missing from this is wind chill. My rule of thumb is dress as you would if out walking in a temperature 8-10 deg C higher than the "real feel". Saturday was 2 degrees with a biting Northerly that made it feel like minus 3 degrees. Today the same underlying temperature but an easterly wind which made it feel much warmer. Hat, gloves, merino wool base layer needed on Saturday but not needed today.
