Just found a winter clothing guide for runners... - Couch to 5K
Just found a winter clothing guide for runners, thought I'd share
I had a hat and gloves on today (and didn't feel too hot) in about 3C with wind chill. However, I won't wear tights or "pants" even when it's below freezing. I figure my legs are the part of me that's doing all the work so they shouldn't need any covering!
Useful , but I guess it's about finding what works for you, too. I tried a hat on a frosty morning last year and hated it! For me, it's long running tights, t shirt and gloves in the cold. I will start my warm up in a hoody but always end up with it around my waist. Oh, and a lightweight rainproof jacket for torrential rain - otherwise I 'embrace' the rain!!😕 I also have some very precious waterproof socks (😮yes, really!) so I can splash through freezing puddles when I am out on the local trails without ending up with freezing feet!
Fab, thanks!
Thank you - that's handy. I've never run until I started this programme so this is my first winter running.
good guide, but you won't catch me running in -6C! owwww
Thank you and I suppose it is what suits. I've not run in winter before so this is helpful for winter. I can imagine wearing a hat but not sure about gloves?
I need my gloves long before it gets that cold !! 😀 And have already resorted to vest, short sleeved top, jacket, capris & long leggings ! Am I just a super soft southerner?? 😂😂
Looks very fussy to me. I more or less wear full length leggings and long sleeved t shirt at all temperatures between 0 and +20. Above that and I might wear cropped leggings and short sleeved t shirt. Below I'd probably add a short sleeved t shirt on top of the long sleeved.
Other than that, it's all about the buffs - first neck, then hands (they make good light gloves), then hats. Getting towards freezing and I'd want actual gloves.
Thanks for sharing. I've been in long leggings for a few weeks, mainly to protect me from rapidly growing nettles rather than the cold. However yesterday I was really please I took my newly purchased running gloves for a maiden voyage.
Today I had on 2 vests a fleece padded jacket gloves and hat and was still cold. hate the treadmill in the gym which is pretty cold anyway so not sure how I'm gonna do when it gets colder. have to be conscious about not hunching up my shoulders too.
am I just a woose? A morning run yesterday with a cold easterly off the sea meant thermal leggings and long sleeve top under long joggers, t shirt and thin running jacket. Needed something for my ears too!
Thanks for the guide - very useful. I've not run in the cold before either and hate feeling cold or exposed so even in summer was wearing full length leggings and long sleeve top. At the moment, am layering with running T under a running fleece hoody and warmer full length running trousers. Start the warm up walk to the park with a lightweight running jacket, which usually ends up tied around my waist. I treated myself to a wool mix thermal running top and leggings, and a running hoody, which I am saving for when it gets even colder (and acts as an added incentive to keep running). Don't know how other runners/cyclists manage with shorts and T-shirts but each to their own. Some of us run hot, others run cold!
