Need to get equipped for Winter!

Am thinking many layers - but gloves and hat. Are wooly ok or should I be going to neoprene?

I don't want to be a running clothing obsessed person, but don't want to be cold either!

I got some thin fleecy Karrimor gloves from sports direct, they had some other thin ones too with a key pocket, they do me just fine, I wear a cap (Underarmour flexfit) and if needed a Lycra neck tube (Buff)

I was flipping freezing yesterday while doing the walky bits of my W3R3 so I'm wondering how to tackle the cold too! Im a cold person generally but do get warm when running (aka jogging) so I guess as I progress through the weeks I'll be running more than walking anyway so maybe it won't be such an issue!

Yes I felt chilly yesterday especially my hands, I'm going to look in Sports Direct for a warmer top and look out some gloves - good luck!

Layers is the only way.

Neoprene is a bit extreme and although wool is generally not brilliant, many use merino wool base layers for warmth in extreme cold.

Today I was mostly wearing compression base layers (top and bottom), running trousers, long sleeved shirt, gloves, buff, beany hat and thin windproof jacket which was perfect and toasty. It was nearly all bought at Aldi.

Wow that’s a lot of clothes weren’t you really warm?

Not when running slowly, as the run dictated.

Once you start longer runs (if you haven't already) you wont need to be as warmly dressed as you think. I ran Saturday and Sunday, I feel the cold, and i wore long leggings, long sleeved thin running top, very thin windproof breathable running jacket, buff round my neck, thin running gloves. Saturday it was 1 degree feels like -1 when i went out. everything stayed on for a 7k run. Yesterday it was 5 degrees so the buff and gloves came off. In the coldest weather last winter, I seldom wore more than that. On almost every run neck wear and gloves came off after ten minutes. I wore a hat a couple of times and sweated under it. If you wear thin layers, they can be peeled off and stowed away. A running jacket can be tied round your waist. Running generates heat so you will never be cold for long :)

Edit: dont wear cotton. It stays wet when you sweat and you will get very chilled when you stop. Lycra and other breathable, sweat wicking materials are the way to go.

Don’t need much. A base layer under a tshirt if it’s not raining or snowing. A thin waterproof, breathable jacket if it is. Even in minus temperatures you get warm once you’re out running! I hate over heating! It was hailing and sleeting at ParkRun this week and I had to shed my jacket and just have a tshirt 😂 sometimes you’ve got to embrace getting drenched 😂

I’ve just ordered this off amazon but it has extremely long arms and the body is long but I’m tall so not fit everyone I think. There are loads to choose on there.

Saturday was the first time I had to layer up

Sports bra

Vest

Long sleeve top

Breathable jacket

Buff

I did debate gloves but ended up not needing them, did have a hat on and considered taking it off but wanted to keep my ears warm

Get a running headband. Search for one on amazon. Buffs are multi functional too.

Does anyone know if it's worth buying special running gloves? Thinking of wearing normal gloves with cut-off fingers tonight. Suppose my hands could get sweaty but then I'll stuff them in my pockets (the gloves not my hands!)

A buff/headband is good for cosy ears 😊
