Just realised I am really looking forward to xmas this year. Usually im panicking about what food and treats I should have in...
This year we have decided not to have a tin of chocolates, nor endless twiglets, peanuts and crisps, no xmas pudding or xmas cake (we are getting a coffee and walnut cake which we prefer anyway) No sprouts...
We have always eaten way too much at xmas and regretted it. Now we are runners we have the willpower not to want to eat calorie laden food for the sake of it.
Will do crudities and dip and unsalted nuts and fruit instead.
My family all agree and its a huge releif. Anyone else feel the same?
Not to say we won't be having a merry time with wine and board games and maybe a run....
Merry xmas everyone.

i love this idea and my husband and i are doing a similar thing. Instead of stockpiling lots of food - which usually ends up in the bin-- we have pared it down. No salted treats like yourself, we do have sweets as the grand children will be popping in also our neighbors children. I am baking just one tray of mince pies and sausage rolls and once they are gone that will be it. I am going to a local Xmas Market on Tuesday so will stock up with lots of fruit, veg and salads and fresh nuts and dates. Neither of us drinks or smokes so our diet and lifestyle will remain healthy with the odd treat. I hope to get out for a run on Boxing day and my husband will complete his weight training program, and a walk round the block,he can't run due to COPD. Here's to a Happy Xmas and Healthy happy new year.
I had a big freezer with lots of shelves in it. bought it one Christmas but sold it straight after. Filled it with all sorts of ridiculous stuff. If you've not got one you can't do that so out it went. I got what I paid for it. Result!
I have made my own WW cranberry and port mincement, am making a light Christmas pud (which is gorgeous by the way), and sausage balls. You can have plenty of veg so it's not all bad news. I only ordered a regular size box of Celebrations and I keep those out of my husband's reach til we get the family round. I don't drink, and am running on Christmas Day so not unduly worried. I do have a cake which has been made for me but I'm taking it with me to my family's Christmas dinner so everyone has dibs.
I am calorie counting and have decided Christmas Eve and Christmas Day I can eat food without counting it. Before and after that, business as usual! Running programme all worked out so the holiday will not sabotage my fitness. Have given up chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks totally so 2 days of foodie fun - my body will go into shock, can you die of chocolate poisoning??? 😳 Julie
I like sprouts too and have been serving them on xmas dinner for 30 years to my family until last year when they all told me that they don't like them and only ate them because I did them...
It's been a long time since I ate crap like that, most of it really isn't even that nice anyway. Personally I don't see Christmas as a reason to put junk in your body, go for a nice run instead!
Well my daughter and I decided to have a bash at making a buche de noel this year. So if we manage to roll and decorate it without it all crumbling apart, I will have a slice of that. She and her cousins want a sticky toffee pudding for Christmas Day so I'm baking that and I'll have a slice of that too but won't go overboard. Have nearly lost all the weight I have to lose and won't sabotage it now but a bit of cake or a couple of mince-pies or biscuits doesn't seem a really big deal to me. I'll enjoy it over Christmas since I don't normally have it.
Last year I was on a strict diet to lose lots of extra pounds that I had been carrying around for far too long. I decided to stick to the diet over Christmas. I was shocked at how much food was around and kept on thinking that all these calories in little bowls, boxes and tins (quite apart from what was on plates) would have been scoffed by me in no time at all. I felt a bit sick at the very thought of me stuffing myself with a couple of biscuits or chocolates every few minutes, even though I might have just had a big meal. So I stuck with it, ate lightly and felt so much better for it.
Now this Christmas I may just try and do the same as I just don't want to feel sick and bloated all over the Christmas period. And I really don't want to see the scales show a weight gain at the beginning of January. Not sure if I can do it again, but I'm going to try!
I need to feed my running self and not my old fat blob! Just thinking about running along full of mince pies and Quality Street will be enough to keep me on the straight and narrow I hope!
