What a lovely run. Downhill start and corvids of all sorts were out in force this morning against a backdrop of mewling gulls. Lots of crows and jackdaws and two groups of 6 magpies were spotted. 6 for gold x 2. Looks like my lucky day And then came the onslaught of the infamous (here anyway) Cichle Hill. It's been a long time old friend and I tried it and it beat me but only for a brief walk before carrying on. There was a flare of gold as the rising sun caught the clouds above the mountain as if it had burst into flames but the false promise of a glorious sunrise faded to an insipid yellow as the grey clouds siezed the day. Down into the narrow lanes where black bellied sheep and curly horned rams stare with indifferent eyes. Oh, just another runner. On down the quiet lanes with just a pause or two for the odd solitary car to pass. And then decision. The longer route past the standing stone or back towards Cichle Hill? Sense prevailed and what a marvellous decision! High hedges with the odd glimpse beyond but so nice to let the legs go. Oh if only I could stride like that on the flat I would be flying! Down the gently curving lane to emerge on Cichle Hill. Couldn't think of a better way to end the run than going along the coast for a bit and stopped by a bench to do my stretches and gaze out across the straits but there was a rustling behind me and there scurrying through the leaves was my second bit of gold. Two red squirrles. Oh, if only I'd had my camera

Oh I do love your posts, you have such soul and you describe everything so wonderfully. Red squirrels ! I have never seen one although we have LOADS of grey squirrels near us and I love watching them climbing the trees and pilfering my bird feeder Ha ha !
You live in a beautiful place and you certainly know how to make the very most of it
Aw thanks PP! There was a huge eradication programme on Anglesey. Kind of felt sorry for the greys but it's so lovely to see the reds. All squirrels are great fun to watch
Wow sounds like an amazing run. So much to be at nature with. I console myself with London parks complete with dogs, squirrels and birds and rats but I love watching nature doing its own thing as I run past. As you say welcome back to the long run. happy running.
Thanks RFC. I bet the parks look stunning in the autumn. It always amazes me how long you can spend looking for wildlife in the countryside but go to the London parks and it's all there, right in front of you!
Lovely post there Hils! I was out on the leafy, golden trail this morning. I was accompanied by rowdy seagulls, which is strange being as we're at the farthest point from the coast in all directions.
It felt good to be out there didn't it. Warm and bright so we have to make the most of it while it lasts.

There is nothing like running through a landscape to make you feel part of it, in a way that walking has rarely provided for me. A wonderfully evocative post that oozes with your appreciation of what you have around you. You didn't need the camera...you said it all.
