Hi, I completed my fist run (week 1 day 1) on Monday and ached afterwards and yesterday!! I was planning on running tonight but am still aching today, should I just run as normal even though I am aching?

Thank you in advance!

If its a while since you last exercised you probably should haave a little stiffness. That will ease as your fitness levels improve. If it is this, try a longer warm up walk to get yourself going. If its a genuine injury, dont run.

I would always recommend that you stick to a routine (mon, wed, fri or tues, thu, sat). Easy pace and you'll be fine.

I'd say yes, it may well help with the aching, but maybe think about how you are running, where you are running and what you are running in.

If you are sprinting your 60 seconds rather than thinking in terms simply of a different motion to walking, slamming yourself down on hard surfaces in a rather old pair of ordinary trainers or worse, there may well be things you can do to help prevent aching quite so much. But it will probably get better as you get used to this new activity too.

Well done for completing the run! I ached hugely after my first run, and was still aching when I tried the second. In my case, I think I was trying to run too fast. By week 2, with a really really slow jog, I wasn't too achy afterwards. Good luck with the next one, just take it slow.

first off, well done on making a start , that can be the hardest part.

Your body will take some time to adjust to your new regime, bound to be a few aches along the way , hopefully this will subside as you progress ..

Stretching after your runs will help - have a look at these - nhs.uk/LiveWell/c25k/Pages/...

Stick with it, you will be amazed at what you can achieve :D

i've just finished week 1 and feel your pain... I'm no expert, but found a hot bath helped and the runs seem to ease it a bit. Glad I'm not the only one feeling the pain!!!

I wouldn't bother. I am the same. I ache all over after a run. I don't run every other day and sometimes I go 2 days between runs. Won't make any difference, I promise you other than let your muscles recover!

Not what you're looking for?
