Running event number 3!

I ran in the Rutherford Appleton Running Event 10k this morning. It was a nice little event, incorporating a 5K (one lap) and 10K (two laps) run around the site of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories and the Diamond light source synchrotron. Nice, (mostly) flat course, and I wanted to see if I could improve on my PB. The last two or three kilometers were VERY hard work, and I had to dig in deep to keep going, but as I neared the finishing area, I was being urged on by the marshals to push hard, and when I looked, it was because the clock was showing the time as in the 59th minute. I put on a spurt, and my chip time was 59:24, over three minutes faster than my previous best. The run included my fastest 1K, 1 mile, 2 miles and my second fastest 5K.

To say I'm pleased is an understatement!

Nice one Steve!

Under an hour for a 10k's a tremendous achievement and bodes well for your H/M on the 11th. ;)

Thanks - I didn't really expect to go sub-60, but I did put a lot of effort into this run. First k split was 5:30, which surprised me - I thought I'd gone off too fast.

Thanks, Sandra. Half Marathon in 2 weeks!

That's absolutely fantastic Steve. I got excited reading how the marshalls were urging you on and the reasons why, and you did it! Hurrah!

That's a brilliant time Steve. So well done to you. I love the bling and the certificate is a nice touch too. Your pace was very steady.

Thanks, Princess! My pace was definitely suffering towards the end - my legs were hurting!

Many congrats Steve. That's a huge improvement and can't knock 2 PBs in two days.

Hi Steve, well done, it's been a good morning for it and it's a great time. I thought about doing this since it's not far from me but as usual I was out on the bike this morning, perhaps next year!
