First 5k!!

β€’12 Replies

I just ran 5k non stop! It took me just under 43 minutes, so very slow but feel I won't completely disgrace myself at first park run on Saturday. I don't think I'll be able to speak to anyone while I run through.πŸ˜“

Well done! There is no such thing as a disgrace at a Park Run. I would suggest you don't be afraid to drop behind at the start though. If you try and keep up with the speedsters you will likely 'blow up ' before the end. I speak from bitter experience. Slow and steady will get you there. Save yourself for a glorious spurt of speed at the end :)

I ran 5K on week 7 in 43 mins which was a nice steady pace. When I graduated last Saturday, I finished it off with my parkrun. Lovely people and I ran all the way round with another first timer. She had never done 5K before and usually does a walk-run. We were matched well in pace and miraculously (or maybe it was fear + peer pressure) because we finished in 36 minutes and sprinted over the finish line. So enjoy it and pace urself but u might b a little quicker on the day. I wanted to stop and walk several times but I plodded on. Looking forward to ur updates πŸ˜€

There are no circumstances under which you will disgrace yourself by running at parkrun (unless you physically push a tiny tot out of the way at the finish line !) You can talk afterwards. Enjoy it, we will be waiting for your run report though......

Ooh well done! You will be fine at parkrun, go along and enjoy it. Let us all know how you get on. x :-)

Thank you all. Splashed out on a pair of trail running shoes; apparently Worcester park run can get pretty muddy so I'll have a run along our public footpaths mid-week to try them out!

rock n roll phil, well done :) 5k :D tick done .. and you wouldn't disgrace yourself at parkrun with that time ... head up chest out and go have fun :D

Yes, the way to go, I got a bit better time at Parkrun on Saturday, by staying with the back of the pack for longer, so I had a small amount of time in hand for when I started to tire and encounter the hill sections.

But being your first one maybe start at the back, so not to go off too fast, which can happen up the front, I've done it and tired quickly, so learnt a lesson there. Just start off steady and try to keep running, but it really doesn't matter if you have to slow to a walk for 30 secs to a minute, enjoy..

I also need a pair of trail shoes as it getting slippy on the trails through woodland.

Good advice, thanks. I'm definitely going to start (and finish, no doubt) at the back!
