Long run 3 weeks before the Yorkshire ten mile run.

I was so dreading getting up this morning. I knew I had to do a long run if I was even going to start the Yorkshire ten miler. But I have been either ill or skiving a bit on my training plan and was afraid I would embarrass myself today. However I didn't! Maybe it was my running track (11 kilometres around Cap D'Antibes) or the new Geoff Galloway plan ( 3 minutes run/ 30 seconds walk) or maybe it's the short sharp hill work I've been doing, but I nailed it. 10.7 K at 7.45 minutes per K. And I could have kept going which is quite important as I will have to run another 7k in my race. Anyhow, much more confident now and yah boo sucks to the 'lady' who suggested I catch a bus!

Well done. I have to go out for my long run later today and the Gremlin is already whispering plausible reasons why not to in my ear.

I know that whisper so well Rig. 'What are you doing? What makes you think you are a runner? People are just going to stare and laugh at you' I bet my Gremlin is meaner than yours ;-)

"It's going to hurt. 3 hours? are you sure? Its going to hurt for 3 hours. You could get the VAT return done/bake a fruit cake/snuggle up on the sofa and watch the Dambusters with this kids. Wouldn't it be better to go tomorrow?"

Oh fair enough. They seem to be related.

errm.. Hmmm... about that 21 miler I was going to do?

DNS'ed.

But have made a gigantic treacle tart instead.

Nice one TT, and, as you so rightly say, one in the eye for the "take the bus" woman! Think the gremlins were out in force today. I almost didn't do my run but ended up finding a new route and having a really lovely time. Sounds like your training is going pretty well to me. Well done :)

Thank you AM. I think less is more for the oldies. I'm just going to do fast (ish) hill and sprint work this week and maybe one more long run before the big day. I will wear my c25K t shirt. Is anyone else doing it?

This is soon going to become flogging a dead horse, I think, but the old me is almost convinced that people who suggest that runners take the bus are just projecting. So when you set out on a 1* m*le r*&^%%%n, you are busy making old-my most terrible nightmares into a reality, and it's painful to think of it. The couch-locating organ starts to shout desperate things like ... old-I don't know ... don't do that to old-me ... to yourself ... to someone ... to ... take a bus, rather. They have some padding in their seats. It's not quite as good as a couch, but it's almost as good in the circumstances.

Well done TT - I imagine running in the South of France helps a bit!

Just a little bit Ully ! I'm lucky to have a friend with a place down here. Apparently I burned 800 calories this morning and there is no better place in the world to replace those!

800 calories more than you would have done on a bus with snarky 'take a bus' woman... ;-) well done. I'm glad you ignored the gremlins. You are a great runner TT.

let my gremlin win on my 1 longer run last week . I am ready for him this week !

well done !

The longer I wait between runs, the louder he gets. If only I were allowed to run every day I could shut him up for good but the wail of ambulance sirens might replace him...

You're not supposed to start your Gremlin until you have a satellite fix and you are ready to start running...........

Brilliant. Well done you. I actually start picturing my gremlins as little green monsters jumping on my shoulders. This usually makes me laugh and gets rid of them. I did once physically swot them off. It seems crazy now but it worked ☺

You keep at it - you're making amazing progress.
