Thought my leg felt better tonight so off I went w6r1 a big nope just hobbling back home dreading what my hubby will say one of those I told you so situations !!!!!
Going to take a week of rest and be good bloody hamstring
that is s a bummer !! follow the RICE method , go see your doc if it doesn't improve .. main thing is definitely rest for as long as it takes .
Hope you recover soon
Thank you
I'm so bloody stupid I knew it hadn't completely recovered but I really wanted to run grerrrrr
I've just iced it I'm going to do some stretches and take some tablets
it isn't stupid to want to get out there and run , I was on the injury couch earlier this year for some time so completely understand .
Don't forget to keep foam rolling and stretching that IT band.
Will do I have a roller I've also just watched a YouTube clip and they say to roll a tennis ball under your foot xx
I'm sooooooooo annoyed with myself
Have a look on mobilitywod.com and/or get hold of the book "How to be a supple leopard" (it's a wee bit pricey but is one of my top 5 sport/injury/health books).
These things are sent to try us but it's all good mental training.
At least you didn't just force the issue and really mess yourself up. That's the trouble once the bug bites, isn't it? A run turns from an obligation into a temptation. For a good while, the rest you take now will be reconstructive, at least. When you start again, you'll still have some of your gains. And anyway, what's 5 weeks? The worst case scenario is that you're amazingly close to being back up to running the longer runs, even if this happens. You might find, also, that you can work around this leg. There might be other things you can do to start preparing yourself for your comeback.
I just hope I'm not away for too long at least I've learnt tonight that you just can't rush these things
I probably should have stuck to spinning I'm too old for this lol xx
I MUST LISTEN TO MY BODY
No such thing as too old. If eg you get numb toes, you don't have enough good disks left in your back to do it, but otherwise, it's the usual thing with life: the search for the Golden Mean. In a sense this is just something you can use to get better at striking balances.
Yes, you must listen to your body. We all have to, and lots of us make fall into the same temptations. "Just a little run" "Go on, can't hurt .." I suppose I have to confess to having "been there; done that".
But store the lesson up for later, when you need to use it one day, again, and hope that this thing gets itself sorted out on its own, and doesn't take too long to do so. Might as well hope. Tell the "critical inner voice" to shut up, now. It's too late for the self-criticisms to do much good, so you might as well drop them for something brighter. It will all be all right in the end, and you're now better equipped to make sure this doesn't happen to you again. Long term effect? Almost a gain.
Aw Jennie , sorry to hear this
Have a hobble along to the Injury Couch for a while, and have a rest. Sometimes thats all you need , well that and some ice
Take care , just a minor setback , this too shall pass xxx
Oh dear, it's annoying but just rest up and it will pass. I think suppleness is what we all aspire to but as you get older it's not so easy. We have to keep moving though. Use it or lose it kinda thing
If you are hurting then don't run. Give it a few days to abate and try again. Ice is really good. Freeze some in a cup, turn it out and rub it all over your poorly hamstring and up and down the shins and calf. It will last for about 8-10 minutes before thawing so give it a go. I use the silicone muffin moulds, but a polystyrene or plastic cup works well and they're easy to turn out.
good luck
You could do some upper body stuff while in a squat position. Think boxing!
