Just got in !

Loads hotter today and felt I was struggling but when all was said and done my pace was about 10s/km faster according to Runkeeper !!!

Don't know why that was but I was arriving at various landmarks earlier than usual (you can tell by the music).

Whilst that may sound great, in my case it leaves a massive hill for the final 5 minutes !!!!!!

I am still not sure how I do it but I powered up the hill and then some !!

Only two weeks left now and I will be sad for it to end.

The challenge has been great and the support wonderful.

This is quite some journey, isn't it ?

Richard

Ps Look how my life has changed - on my desk, two running magazines, a bottle of water, RunKeeper on my phone and this forum in the background !! A few weeks ago that would have been two lads magazines, a bottle of beer, Sky Sports News on my phone and the Golf Magic Forum in the background !!

Well done Richard and a massive big up to you for tackling the hill at the end !

Are you crazy ? Ha ha , only joking, I am speaking as someone who tackled a hill on Tuesday night and my legs feel they have been run over by a steamroller !

Yes , Week 8 is on the horizon, No problem ! :-) xxx

Thanks Christine, you are a great support on this forum, not just for me but for everyone.

I also wanted to add that my weight seems to have steadied BUT my clothes are getting loose and obviously my shape is changing quite a lot.

We haven't done our measurements for a while but I am excited to see them as I think there are quite a few cms that have disappeared.

EDIT :

The only thing that seems to be getting larger are my thighs - some real muscle definition happening there !!

Ps My pace today was actually about 15 seconds quicker per km - unbelievable ! I didn't purposely run any quicker

Thanks Richard, that is really kind of you to say so xxx

Yay, I haven't lost any weight lately, well maybe half an ounce off my left earlobe, but I definitely think my shape is changing too .

Its very heartening to hear and long may it continue, Well done ! :-) xxx

The best news in a story like yours is that a pretty substantial increase in fitness is never that far away. It's not something you either have to wait years for, or that you have to kill yourself and then give yourself a few more kicks, just to make sure, in order to achieve. And really this is all our stories, given a bit of time stretching in a case like mine. There seems to come a point where the body just becomes willing, almost. Yes, and look how your life has changed!

Thanks Gary, not sure where this extra is coming from as I deliberately tried to run slower and more controlled but just seemed to be eating up the ground.

I am starting to love this running lark and want to find out how good I can really be !

Oh yes I know all about the landmarks and music thing :)

It really is a motivator isnt it :)

I remember when I started, there was a set of bollards which appeared shortly after Laura said "you are halfway through this section". It wasnt long before I was passing the bollards when she said that. The bollards were on the crest of a hill, and it wasnt long before I was half way down the hill on the other side when she said that, and then starting up the other side.

The trouble is that the run becomes a series of time related landmarks, and you try to hit all of them that bit earlier every run. To begin with this is very motivating and goes well. However, later improvements will be slower in coming, and this desire to hit the landmarks earlier every run can tempt one to push that bit too hard and risk injury.

I started C25K in Sept last year. By the end of March I was running 10km runs on week days and 14km at the weekend. I was really enjoying it, but then injury struck. Ankles didnt want to run any more. Until the last couple of months I've only been able to run 5km once a week without my ankles giving me jip. I'm now back to 5km or so every other day. I've stopped listening to the podcasts and music and just run at what feels comfortable. My times are gradually improving but I know that it will be months before I'm back to sub 30min 5km or sub hour 10km. But I don't mind, I know I'll get there eventually, and while I'm getting there I'll enjoy my runs.

Sooooo.... very well done for sticking with the program. Having done week 8, you have proven to yourself that you are a runner. I can guarantee that you will continue to see improvements in fitness, and your times will continue to drop. It feels great, and it is very addictive. Take care though not to push toooo hard after completing the C25K program and risking injury, it is easier said than done though :) the urge to run that bit faster will always be there ;)

Thanks Zev, I wasn't looking to improve it just crept up on me.

I will heed your advice and not try to push myself.

My long term goal is to run 5k but gradually improve my times.

I have no great desire to run 10k etc because that will just eat up more of my time.

I love the fact that this can all be done and showered in just over an hour and I start and finish at home so it fits into my life so well and gives me time to get on with other things.

Well done Richard. It's amazing where these improvements come from, especially when we least expect them!

Keep up the great work ☺

Ps. I love your "vintage" phone. Looks fab. Is it proper dially one?? ☺

Hi Noaky, it is a proper dially one !!!!

I got it off ebay about three or four years ago for about £35 !!

When the clocks change we change loads of our bits & pieces over and that phone is swapped for an original trimphone !!

What a difference a run makes! Many congratulations, not just on your improved times but also on making some very impressive changes in your life. No beer, no Sky Sports and especially no lad mags. Fantastic! Well done :)

Tidy desk!!!!!! Mine looks like it's taken a direct hit from a scud!

I love those proper phones! I think all calls received on one of those would be urgent! Trimphones!!! We had one of those. A gorgeous blue one. I could never hear the darned thing though

Well done on your C25k progress. Not long now!!!! Go steady and have fun with those last few runs.

I love that phone too ! Its like something out of a old black and white film where you pick up the phone and say " Get me Whitehall 1234 " and then it goes to a lady in a post office who sticks the thinghy in the wotsit and then listens in ha ha :-) xxx

Everyone comments about the phone.

It's an original with a new fitting into a standard BT socket. I love it !

The trimphone will be coming out in a few weeks. The reason we have it is that we have had a number of power cuts and only have modern cordless phones, at least with a corded one we can be contacted.

It's known as the Bat Phone !
