This time last year we decided to go and watch the first Brooks 10KM race, we wondered down with the runners and watched them do their dance warm up. They were all wrapped up ready to run a distance i knew i wanted to do. We cheered them on and soon learnt this is not the done thing in Chile!!! We went for a coffee and came back and saw the first runners cross the line in 35minutes ish.
Fast forward a year...even though we had done the other 2 races in the year we really wanted to do this one. I felt tired as i am trying to keep my distance up, my legs said no this morning but off we went. It was a lovely sunny day compared to a year ago and i had a whole years running experience under my belt.
By the time we got into the pen I thought this is the last Brooks Race we can do so give it your all. On my hand i scribbled down two goals to bring me in at 55minutes, 5km needed to be 27:30 and 8km 44minutes with an average pace of 5:30.
Off we went very well but i realised i was tired and i was not going to make my 5km target time. Decided to stop for a drink and then see how the the last 5km went, i thought i will just give it everything and hopefully make up for the last 5km, as it mostly down hill i knew this wasn't going to be a problem.
6km it was warm but ideal running conditions, it was hard and i just felt tired but i thought "no get through this pain barrier and push on". So i dug in deep, lifted my head and found people to keep pace or overtake. 8KM much better - only 2 left and pretty much near my target. Right now the work really begins, i need to keep this pace right to end and its faster than the 5:30, but no pain no gain. Luckily there were lots of people around so this helped me to keep up the pace, final 1km don't go too fast too soon. I made it over the line.....I don't know my official time but i think it said 54:50 as I looked up at the clock.
Garmin had the course at 9.91km but we are friends so lets call it 10km.
Hopefully this link will work (not very good at making it work, but i have tried to unlocked)

I am pleased, as i felt tired and generally blah about doing this race. So glad i did it and decided to push myself especially in my last Brooks 10km. Each time I have done it i have improved my time and even though this was not my original goal, (as all i wanted to do was run it) I pleased that my times have improved.

Marzo 22 = Chip time 59:46
Mayo 10 = Chip time 55:49
Agosto 30 = Chip time still waiting time
Just these 2XHM now in Oct and Nov and I have even started looking at races in the UK. They are very expensive in comparison to Chile but i think the atmosphere in the UK will be better than running in silence in Chile. Even as you cross the line the people waiting for their loved ones don't clap for anyone else!!
