The good, the bad and the ugly....

So yesterday i did my race second 10km race.

The good:

The children set off on their 2.5km - the adults then lined the road to cheer them on the home stretch - it was great cheering them on giving them that last boost as they pushed on through. The determination they had was amazing and even some over taking right at the line. The highlight obviously was seeing little superman finish in style (4/5years old - i guess). It was lovely seeing children being brave enough to run alone and also for families to race together!!

I managed to finish in 1:01, also managed the last 5km in 29minutes 45seconds (according to garmin)

The Bad:

The race was very busy (8000) people, 3 race distances all fighting for the same bit of the road for 3km. Not fun!

The Ugly:

Mentioned the little kiddies running, when they thought the last kid passed the finish line they let us close the gap in the road. But this child and his parent turned the corner to the finish line they were faced with a sea of red people and could not get to end! Finally, the organisers realised their mistake and managed to clear a lane on the road, again closed it too soon, as a man and his three kids could not finish their race either.

On the walk 8km home afterwards we managed to do some sightseeing in our race gear. Also walked parallel to my next 10km race in dec, its going to be toughie - i have given myself a target for 1hour 20-30minutes as its so hilly so i am guessing i will be last! Too late now - i have paid my $13 000 pesos so i am going. My partner said rather than running the flat route back to the finish, he will be at the finish line drinking a bottle of vino and enjoying a nibble of empanadas. Luckily, i will be back at 10pm so we still be able to go for dinner afterwards.

Woohoo Vix, that's some fast running you did there Mrs and with negative split for the second 5k! Be proud, be very proud!!! :)

Does sound like a massive race if you had 8000 people trying to run the same bit of road, so it's probably not surprising there were problems ensuring everyone finished the kiddie race. You've got to feel so sorry for those poor people trying to get through to finish.

Good luck with the training for the December 10k. Sounds like you've got your work cut out with all those hills :)

Yeah especially the look on their little faces :( Thank you - i was surprised because because it was slow for so long into the race i thought forget it i am never going to get a good time, just get to end and put it down down to experience. Then when garmin said one new record i thought - it must be for a fast mile so a bit of a surprise.

I have some photos of the hill - well part of the hill as it wraps around too much so i need to take another one.

29:45 for the second 5k? That means you achieved the fabled "negative split".

Impressive indeed!!!!

i don't know how i did it to tell you the truth, maybe it was the parting from the 5kers and the 21kers that allowed some free road. Maybe the road on the other side of the river was better. Thank you, i will take that time and run into the woods with it :)

It was terrible - especially because some of them were so little :( Well at least they got a medal at the end - us adults didn't get anything !!

8,000 people in one race! Yikes! That must have been hard. Fantastic times Vixchile and I can't believe you then walked 8K home! Very, very well done.

Thank you :) It was tricky especially as we all went off with no order - just one huge red mass. A few times i got a clip in the heel and pushed passed but nothing too tramuatic. We decided to walk as it was such a nice day, plus we got to see some sights. I must admit the last 1km my feet were hurting and legs felt tired, so will attempt a short run tomorrow.
