5k charity run this Sunday

I am seriously concerned now. Only 6 days to go. I started C2K months ago with the app. Really surprised myself that I could do it. Was really enjoying it the benefits definitely helped me. Felt fitter and lost weight. my younger daughter died two years ago this run is in memory of her and to raise funds for mental health.

However over the past few weeks I seem to have lost my way!

I have been out the past two weeks but end up walking and running.

I need inspiration!

Hi Katlyn, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter and I think it's lovely when people do runs in memory of or in celebration of the lives of loved ones.

Have you been running regularly since you graduated? Maybe it's just nerves kicking in. I'd say do two gentle runs with rest days in between this week, have a rest day before the event and just go for it. The adrenalin might carry you forward on the day, but even if you have to take a few walking breaks it doesn't matter. Best of luck, let us know how you get on X

Hi Katlyn, there's no shame in using a run/walk strategy to do your race, many many experienced runners prefer running that way and get excellent times too. Last year I did a race and ended up running near a lady who used run/walk. For most of the race, every time she walked i overtook her, then, every time she ran, she passed me again. However, towards the end of the race as I tired, she got away from me and and finished before me. So embrace run/walk and enjoy yourself. You're running for a great cause and, more importantly, in memory of your daughter. I'm sure the emotion and adrenalin of the day will carry you through. Very best of luck.

Thanks for sharing that, will feel better now about having a walk break when I go to Parkrun!!

Do not worry about having a walk break ! I have done my home park run 24 times but only managed to run all the way once and it was one of my slowest times !!

I do the run/walk every parkrun. I use a slower runner as a pacer and leap frog them all the way. Then at the end I have the energy to over take and beat them. I feel bad but it's the only way I can do it haha x

Grrrrrrrrr

I am sure that the memory of your daughter plus the atmosphere on the day will spur you on. I hope it's a good experience for you and don't be so hard on yourself. Good luck.

Thank you everyone, I think I felt I should be running the whole way. My other daughter is also doing it and she says if we have to walk or run we are still doing it and moving more than the person on the couch!

I will let you know how it goes

Don't be afraid to go back to the app for a while, maybe try one run from each of weeks 7, 8 and 9 for your run to get you back in the game?

You will do it. You have a goal and you will surprise yourself. Take two days rest maybe before the run. Let us know how you went.

Well I did it took slightly longer than I thought, but I had not really been timing just running. We took off in a bunch and I forgot to pace myself so felt a bit dizzy but walked a bit and recovered then the crowd was ahead so I just done my own thing. So pleased now!!
