Couldn't take my running stuff on Thursday as I joined a couple of old school mates at Southampton airport as we were all heading off to France, as they'd only take the mickey over how big my suitcase would have been, so I left it all at home. So had a smashing four days mooching around the Vendee area, lots of very cold beers, very long lunches, afternoon naps even (ah bless!), more cold beers, even longer dinners and no exercise (save for a splash about in the sea), so thought now I'm back today I ought to do something to check my fitness since I've signed up to the Thames 10k at Beale Park for Wednesday evening.
So whilst still off work today got out this morning and knocked off my first sub 10k, seconds under the hour! Blimey, seems moules mariniere, frites, steak, lots of cold beer and red wine and doing very little apart from laughing and joking about for four days is a recipe for running success (I did have to have another nap after lunch though)?!!

Bet you it's all the protein in the steak and the time to recover that did it. Well done, and big congratulations with the sub-60, that's a result to be proud of!
Oh so you haven't come across the training plan that says "lots of very cold beers, very long lunches, afternoon naps, more cold beers, even longer dinners and no exercise for four days" before?
Hi MissW, I think it was the rest, it was the most relaxing few days away I've had in years (no kids, no driving, nowhere to be particularly, etc, etc). It'll be interesting to see how I manage on Wednesday though. Cheers.
