Venturing out

HanPanStrawberryJam profile image

I have another appointment at the doctors tomorrow about my shins but tonight I decided to test them a bit and ventured out for a walk. I'm in pain now but I don't want to stop moving now that I came so far :( I've decided if the doctor says I can't run tomorrow, I'm going to complete couch to 5 k on a spin bike instead :)

What a good idea. If you go for some brisk walks on your rest days your legs will strengthen up enough to start running when your weight comes down a bit. I've been following your posts on the weight loss forum and I am hugely impressed. You should be an addiction counsellor! Good luck x

Haha thanks for your support! I'm just going through recovery and sharing experiences really helps me :) that's a good idea to walk on my rest days! The GP told me not to walk last time I went because he thought I had stress fractures but I'm hoping now thing a have improved enough :)

Oh - well take the GP's advice. It's good to keep moving if you can though. Fresh air and exercise improves the mood and that can surely only help strengthen your resolve to ignore those cravings? Keep us posted. I think you're incredibly brave taking this personal journey so publicly :)

This is going to sound really weird, but could you do some drumming? Trying to think of fun, physically demanding stuff that won't tax your legs. Or maybe rowing? Either of those could class as cardio if you go quick enough and would burn calories (and stress/frustration-from-dodgy-shins).

Good luck, anyhow.

Cycling is a good idea. Once the shins quiet down you can get back on the running horse. It's all good stuff, just be sure to keep posting here as the support is so good (and the cyclists b probably don't know Laura;) )
