Hello all

Well, I have decided on what I want to do!!! I am going to try interval runs twice a week and 1 30+ min run a week.

So Wednesday is going to be my 30 minute run and I bought a new pair of trainers to give them a test drive! (that's my excuse) I bought a pair of Karrimor duma trainers which are quite flat. My wife keeps singing the Noddy song at me!!!

I noticed straight away that I was running flatter if that makes sense! So I walked for 5 minutes then got into my run, 10,15,20 minutes had gone by, constantly talking to myself and then pushed on for 25 and then 28 minutes. Ok two more minutes to go.

I got to 30 minutes and thought, ok my breathing is not too bad, lets push on! A little voice popped up in my head and reminded me of the 10% rule, so I got to 35 minutes and stopped. I am quite happy with that, in my 35 minute run I covered a distance of 1.87 miles, total including the walks was 2.35.

That is the first time I have passed the two mile mark and also I have been tracking since 1st April my miles covered, in total 29 miles!! more than sitting on the couch!

A word for all the people who are just starting, I am fifty, smoke 20 a day and work at a desk for 7 hours and watch tv for 5 hours, so if I can do this program so can you and good luck!

Stephen

Shoes like that with a low 'drop' are not suitable for everyone so I hope you are OK with them.

Good luck with the intervals, they are probably the least popular type of run with veteran runners.

oh dear, I am a veteran! to be honest I am so hyper, I actually prefer mixing it up a bit, jogging bores me to tears!

When I started this program I bought a pair of Asics gel pursuit, which I can run in but not for long period of time, my previous 30 min runs were carried out wearing Nike Downshifter 5 trainers which are probably the lightest pair of trainers I have got.

OK, fair enough - it seems like you've got it covered.
