Week 7 done

Really struggled this week. The 25 minute runs have been the first time my legs run out of juice before my lungs. And I'm running at my slowest pace EVER!!! I run about an hour after breakfast (small bowl of porridge) but I think I end to put more thought into my evening meal the night before? Does anyone else have trouble fueling their legs?

Hi AJB, I usually run in the morning before breakfast. it may just be that the muscles in your legs are not used to the exercise. Carry on taking it steady and hopefully it will all come together.

Try googling "dynamic stretches". Might help get your leg muscles warmed up before you start. Just don't let anyone watch ;)

My legs have problems getting wind of the motivational messages my brain sends down there - I still have ample reserves of energy (read 'big bum') for them to draw on if they deem it necessary. I run late afternoon (off for a run in five minutes, actually) so that they have no excuses on the food front and I don't get a stitch either.

Hi there,

I have just done week 7 and have had the same problem. I also have been running really really slowly. I wear a heart rate monitor and noticed that my pulse was hardly elevated but my legs were struggling. :)

I put it down to the fact that these are the first set of continuous long runs---starting with wk 6 run 3. Before that there were always walking breaks. I think my legs are just not used to this type of exertion over a period of a week or so.

I will run again on Tuesday--which gives me 2 days rest--if I am still struggling I may repeat wk 7 one more time.

I'm sure it will improve.

Good luck with your running----running for 25 minutes 3 times in a week is a pretty good achievement on its own.

Thanks harveyemm, it's good to know it's not just me! I eat a relatively low carb diet so I wondered if that was part of the problem. I will try to remember to eat a proper portion of brown rice the night before my next run I think, see if that helps...

Good luck to you too! :-)
