That's terrible!

A "goodwill gesture"(!) will obviously make up for their sheer incompetence .....

Oops!

You've got to feel sorry for those poor runners! Bet the marshal who went AWOL is feeling really terrible today :(

Things could be worse. Natalia Boyarskaya had a 59 seconds lead at the Beijing Olympics Women's Cycling Road Race when she had to stop and get someone to check on a map which way the route went... She eventually finished 40th - 1 minute 21 seconds behind the eventual winner, Nicole Cooke. I often wonder if the gold medal would have gone in a different direction had the marshalling been better. I think that there was a little more at stake in the Olympics than at Bournemouth.

A couple of years ago there was a sponsored bike ride from London to Cambridge which got mixed up with the London - Edinburgh - London Audax (a 1400km bike ride to be completed in under ~90 hours - including sleeping). Quite a few of the Cambridge bound riders latched onto the back of a group heading to Edinburgh... They weren't that far from Cambridge at the time. They might have got a bit of a surprise if someone hadn't gone and chased them down. A makeshift sign soon appeared at the junction saying "Cambridge left, Edinburgh right".

I can see some of the Bournemouth runners being a little upset at the time. However, in the future, it's going to be a tale to tell the grandchildren.

I would be more upset if it was under distance to be honest.

It does reflect badly on the organisers, but some of these people need to get a grip. Being in floods of tears? Why? Why not just stop running after 10k?

OCR races are often quite different on the distance advertised - due to the vagaries of zigzagging in forest and hills and so on. Often they are billed as 10kish to cover this. But as long as you get at least 10k you have had your money's worth.
