I'm on week 8 run 2, today I took part in my local park run, it is a ridiculously hilly course, I completed it in 29m 35s, but and this is the but, I dropped to a walk in 2 different sections of the course, do I class week 8 run 2 as now done, or do I have to re run week 8 run 2?
Question for the panel?: I'm on week 8 run... - Couch to 5K
Question for the panel?
I think that's up to you. The important thing is that you run for 30 mins three times in week 9.
Great time for the Parkrun!
Cheers Steve,
Depending on the number of replies, I'll make a judgement on it lol.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
If it was me, I would repeat.
There is no doubt you are capable of running for 30 minutes non-stop and pretty quickly too but having the discipline to run at a sensible pace is just as important in terms of c25k.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Thank you for your comment Dunder
Having run my first parkrun this morning and knowing that it's not so straightforward to pace yourself as if you were alone, and given your time too, I'd say you can definitely move on now.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Thank you catchme, I'm undecided right now, I'll see what the general consensus is.
1st up what a great time for a "hilly" course , really well done. It is your choice , I am with Dunder repeat ..
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Cheers Rob, I'm leaning towards repeating it.
Impressive time Hussain, you sound like a competitive type. Bearing that in mind I'd say repeat. It is only a couple days extra days, you will KNOW you have met the criteria and your graduating time could be quicker! Good luck, sure your time will be fast!
Thank you for your comment old_git
That's a tough one!!! Given the terrain I'd move on but then again it's you convincing you that matters, not us whatever you decide, you're close now
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Northernspirit says it all really. If you do all the runs by the book, then nobody is going to say you aren't a graduate.............and if you don't do all the runs by the book, then we are not all going to come around yours until you do. If you're happy then great. Great run too, but I reckon pacing is going to be your problem as you increase your distance.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Thanks Ian, I'll sleep on it
If you'd set out to do the 28 minute run that is W8R2, would you have moved on if you'd walked a couple of times?
Personally I have no doubt that if you didn't have hills plus a race going on around you, you'd be able to run for 30 minutes without stopping.
My advice? Do a W8 run and see how it goes. If you run continuously and feel good, by all means call it R3 and move on. If you have to walk, or feel terrible, call it R2.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
No problem HB.... it was a Park Run and so by definition you'll have gone off too fast, and tired yourself out.
You'll manage W8r3 no problem on Monday/Tuesday, and so just move on.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
Thank you very much for your comments guys, I'll take them into consideration and sleep on it. I'm leaning towards running week 8 run 2 again, don't think it will do me any harm and probably better prepare me.
I'm a bit OCD, so stopping to walk is cheating. So my OCD side says repeat. BUT I just got a PB in parkrun today at 29:39 AND I stopped to walk on the second lap after a hill - for about 1 minute. Now I earned that PB and I don't care if I stopped to walk for a while, I'm still claiming my PB. So my practical side says go for w8r3 next, you earned it.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
I would say move on personally, you are clearly very able and given that there were hills that's why you walked. However my challenge to you for your next run is to:
1. Slow it down
2. Keep going all the way with no walking
3. You can do a sprint finish if there's fuel in the tank
Thank you I re ran it tonight
We're only talking about one extra run and it isn't even as if you are worried that you've hit some kind of barrier you won't be able to move forward from! Where's the problem in aiming for a completed W8R2 unless you don't like running and are desperate to graduate so you can give up?!
Lots of us have to repeat runs because we didn't complete them successfully - but that doesn't mean we 'failed' a run, which I think is the feeling you may be trying to avoid. We learn loads of stuff from those runs - possibly (although not necessarily) more than the ones that go smoothly.
Thank you I re ran it tonight
ok, right I've slept on it and I'm going to repeat week 8 run 2, thank you everybody who contributed to the thread.
