The Hairy Helmet Relay

I haven't graduated yet (just about to start week 8) but I'm itching to have a race because I get lonely running on my own all the time. I can't run 5k yet but a local running club are hosting a Hairy Helmet Relay on 15th June (I think it's a real ale). The race is 4 x 2 and a bit miles, apparently, and I really want to do it. I think I can find 3 friends to go with me, if only for the beer and barbecue afterwards, but I'm nervous because the course has a huge long hill at the start and I always run on the flat.

I suppose I just need some encouragement from you lot to have a go. What do you think?

Get one of the others to do the first leg of the relay then!

The thought of beer & BBQ is what made me agree to do my first race in July!

My advise.... run 2nd! That way you miss the hill and you get plenty of time to recover for the BBQ and ale :)

or start earlier

Oh I wish that were true! I measured the course on Realbuzz and it came out at 3.5 km (2 and a bit miles). That means each team member has to run the whole course. There's no avoiding the big hill I'm afraid. Do you think they will let me have the free beer before I run to give me some Dutch courage? I should go first so that they haven't packed up and gone home before my team finish.

Beer and BBQ? No brainer!! I'm with you on the whole hill thing though, I just can't do them, just walk the hill bit ;)

I wonder if they'd notice if I get a piggy back from one of the club runners. My mind is made up, I'm going to have a go. :)
