I think I might have cracked the shoe thing...I went into Sweat Shop yesterday, not in much hope to be honest, but the young lady there actually seemed to understand my problem. We did another gait analysis, and she brought me two pairs of shoes to try, neither of which caused my poor foot any pain! I was gobsmacked! I chose these - Mizuno Inspire, pretty boring (they're not very pink/purple) and pretty much as wide as the box they came in, but so far they seem to work! The difference seems to be where the seam joining the tongue to the shoe falls - I.E. not across my lumpy bit. They are light as a feather too. I was so chuffed that two pairs of running tights seem to have fallen into my basket as well!
I went out for a little trot around this morning, just had to try them out. I was trying to keep the speed down as I'm still not well and coughing like a good 'un but my Mizuno's were having none of that! Brook's Adrenalin? Who he? I think I'm going to really like these, even on a "slow" run I got my second fastest ever Kilometer time...OK I didn't go far, but the first signs are good...can't wait until I'm properly better and really see what these babies can do...TWO runners smiled and said hello to me too, must have been the shoes!
On another good note, I LOVE my new tights! I can't believe I didn't know how good they could be, why didn't someone tell me? Despite them being quite thin they are toasty warm, I've suffered so much this winter with the cold...my legs like them too, they feel like they're giggling now!
Runkeeper made me giggle too, apparently I was running over the roofs of building 13 meters below sea level - doncha just love RK?
Happy running xxx

Oh Curly, that is such good news! They look great, and how good to find someone who really knows their stuff. I don't think I've ever seen a bad comment about Sweatshop.
Now go and get them dirty girl!
Ooh good ! Fingers and toes crossed that these work for you.
Oh fab news!!!!! I was thinking about you today as I ran and thinking how we could cut a hole in your shoe to accommodate your bunion. I was mentally scalpelling a hole, but then how did we seal the hole so you didn't get a wet foot. Melt the edges? Nah that would make it rough, or maybe not. Ah such a conundrum. Hope it doesn't come to that, and it sounds like it might not having read the above.
I think TT runs in Mizuno's. I tried some of those on in Sweatshop. They are the widest ones I tried I think. I have a pretty wide forefoot so need a roomy toe box. I think it was the Wave Rider I tried but I ended up with the Nikes
If they feel comfy straight out the box they might feel even better after a few runs. The signs are good!
OOh tell all! How's it going? There's one near me, free, ladies only, meets on Wednesday for interval training on the common. I haven't been yet, seems I've been under the weather since I heard about it, but I will give it a go one of these days!
So pleased for you CG and I bet they won't be that colour for long. I would run along in them to that doctor who told you to find another sport!
WOW so pleased for you Curly , welcome to the Mizuno supporters club : D and now you are converted to running tights too ( what did i say so may times before ) good to have you back running and pain free
Yup the tech gremlins seem to like messing with RK !! pushing me towards Mr Tomtom or Ms Garmin
I keep looking at Garmins, but really RK does everything I need, and I am too tight for a Garmin... but I was too tight for the tights lol too, £30, but really worth every penny. Bet I get a Garmin eventually...
Fab news. anything which makes it more comfortable is a great find. So I take it you will be visiting the Sweatshop more often to see what else there is. Enjoy your running.
Oh yes! I will be away in Franc e soon until November, so will probably need some new shoes before I get back to UK. I might get ready with another pair of Mizuno's, you know, just in case! And I really need a top to go with those tights...
No lol! but I think I might need some before November - 8 months... the last pair only lasted me 8 months, and that included the early days of C25K... maybe 300KM. I think I might be quite hard on running shoes..
Aw Curly Wurly, this is absolutely amazing news ! I am so so pleased you have found a solution !
Where theres a will, theres a way, oh what a difference a coupla days make. You had a crap coupla days after the doc and now here you are back on Cloud Nine !!!
Oh thats made my day that, I am so happy for you xxx
Morning Curly xxxx I was due to go see the physio at 6pm today. They have just called me 5 minutes ago to say the one I was due to see has phoned in sick.
So now I have had to rearrange to 6pm tomorrow .
I will be posting an update tomorrow night after Ive been
Hope your shoes are still working like magic , I need some magic fairy dust scattering my way !
Getting a bit more coordinated with 'em now sweetie, but tried to do too much yesterday, so very uncomfortable today. Should have listened to my mum who told me to sit still for a fortnight to let the bones reattach. going slowly crackers. Stir crazy doesn't come close! xxx
That's the weird thing, Pops. i wasn't given any after care plan at all. Just to gradually increase the amount of weight bearing I do and not to drive for a couple of months. Think I'm going to have to ring the GP to ask for more instructions because I'm not sure what I should be doing and think I may have done too much too soon. Just impatient I guess. xxx
Blimey , so what are you supposed to do about the Boot ? Thats a bit rubbish that isnt it ? I thought they wouldve give you a follow up appointment or something .
Great news looks like SweatShop is definitely the place to go. My Asics are a year old in a fortnights time and have covered 650km so past their best I think. I feel a trip to Nottingham coming on...
They were really good! They do another weird check, some kind of machine called a "foot - o - meter or something, where you stand on it and it checks how you are before you start running. I apparently have very high arches, I didn't know that! They also mould some custom insoles for you too, but I didn't like those... or the price - £42 gasp. There was no hard sell though. If you have the gait analysis you get 30 days to take beck unsuitable shoes, but not if you done. Well worth the time I think.
I looked at your picture - it doesn't look like a bunion. One of the characteristics of bunions is that they distort the foot and make the toes point away from the bunion, and yours are beautifully straight. I would seek a second opinion. I hope the shoes don't rub!
I thought that, I have what is clearly a bunion on the other foot, neither foot has ever caused me any bother until recently...she was a trainee doctor, and I thought she was really arsey.. I'm thinking of asking for a second opinion, but at then end of the day it's the running shoes that have caused the problem not the lump.
Only just seen your previous post about what the doc said. Ignore it! I've had a bunion for a long time now and it hasn't stopped me from doing anything.
Do you think Runkeeper was trying to show you running in the air because you were so happy
Oh, fingers crossed these work for you! I'm taking my second pair of shoes back to Sweatshop because they're not right so hopefully I can find something too. Interesting that Mizuno are wide - but I think from memory you're a neutral runner? I over-pronate as well, so trying to find a wide fit shoe is not easy. But I'm so glad that you found something, even if you are running over rooftops and underwater in your joy
Apparently I over-pronate on one leg only - typical of me not to do anything normally! I think the difference with these shoes is not so much the width, but where the seam for the tongue falls.
Fantastic stuff Curly. So very pleased for you. Knew that doc was talking nonsense! I have Mizunos too and they are really really light. Hadn't really thought of them as being particularly wide or deep, but I suppose the fact that my gel insoles fit in on top of the regular insole and I still have plenty of room, would seem to suggest that they do come up a wee bit wide. Mine were comfortable from the outset too like yours. Go Mizunas! Go Curly!!
Basically the 'Scholl' section in Boots has all these things - just apply silicon padding in all directions. It sounds like you've totally cracked it with the new shoes tho, happy running
I fear there wouldn't be room in the shoes with anything else in there - I don't have and have never had any problems except with running shoes. I didn't even know I had bunions...but I will certainly have a look.. xx
What a lovely post to read, fingers crossed the mizunos work out. I loved how the tights fell into your basket (that happens to me) and that the runners said hello due to your shoes, did make me giggle. Cheered me up after a muddy failure this morning.
